Cannot Connect to the iBooks Store

Tried to reinstall but same problem:

Only me having this?

I would imagine you can't load twitter.com either.


I too am having this problem. I was unable to load Twitter.com, paypal.com, and now that I've checked, I cannot load the iBooks store either.

I've been detailing things there. I've tried many solutions. None have worked. It's not my installation of Safari or the OS, my network, or my computer itself - because a guest user on the same computer can load the sites just fine.

Well, I solved the issue on my end. I can access the iBooks Store, PayPal.com, and Twitter.com.


I don't know exactly what did it, but I opened Keychain Access and selected the "Certificates" on the left-hand bottom pane.


From the top pane I selected the "login" keychain. I "Got Info" on all the certificates. Those that had "Always Trust" as the setting instead of "Use System Defaults" I RESET to "Use System Defaults." I had about four that were set to "Always Trust."


I then selected "System Roots" from the top left panel and repeated the same process - Get Info, change to "Use System Defaults" if something else was selected.


Safari didn't even require a restart. iBooks also worked instantly.


I don't know what certificate was "damaged" or had the wrong settings; there were only about six or seven and many of them were for services that are entirely unrelated. But it works now.

I am also having this problem, but it seems to be related to a proxy server that we are required to access the internet through at my office. On an outside connection everything works fine. On the office network, iBookstore, PayPal and Google sites do not work. I am getting the kCFStreamErrorDomainSSL, -9802 error message in the console.


What is strange is that through Chrome everything works just fine. So it has something to do with how Safari is interacting with the proxy and/or certificates. I tried to changes my trust settings as detailed above and that did not work.

I have exactly the same issue as describet by "bengersfoo", i.e.


"I can find exactly the certificate that pavelfrompraha mentions, and it is set to "Always Trust".


But I cannot reem to reset it to System Defaults. When I choose that option it has always reverted to "Always Trust" whenever I check again."


It would be very helpful if someone could please explain how to make the "System Defaults" setting stick.

Solved for me!


Here is how it goes:

1. Make a change to any one of the 10 setting that can be manipulated under the "Get info" window for the "VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5" certificate but leave the "When using this certificate: Always Trust"-setting unchanged.

2. Close the "Get info" window (password required).

3. Again open the "Get info" window for ""VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5" certificate.

4. Now change the setting of "When using this certificate: ..." to "Use System Defaults" (the 10 other setting should all show "no value specified").

5. Close the "Get info" window (password required).

Bingo! - Now it should be possible to log into iBookstore right away!
