My understanding is that you have 2 options. If you've got a snowleopard install disk you can do a custom install of rosetta and then run the finalcutstudio 2 installer. Some people report serious problems working this way and have an alternative workflow

I've done the Rosetta install a few times on a number of systems without any issues.

Good luck.

I strongly recommend you have a clone of your startup drive.

If you've got a working clone, I'd go ahead and do the Rosetta route. if things go south (and they haven't for me or several of my clients) you can clone back to your startup drive and get back to work.

Terminal is a way of actually entering text commands and you'll find it in applications: utilities. And it too can be dangerous if you make mistakes.

I cannot explain anecdotally why Pacifist did not work for you.

Have you tried Jeremy Johnstone's Terminal method of installation:

as supplemented by Aric's comment on June 4, 2012?

Probably not, reviewing your earlier comments...

What city are you in?

Can you post the error message?

I doubt that pacifist, rosetta or termimanl solutions are the problem.

if you've got the spare drive space, making diskimages and mounting them makes the installation process much much faster. If you may need to do this a few times, it's definitely worth the effort.

Here's a tutorial

Although this tutorial suggests creating a bootable drive with the OS installer on it, that's not necessary. You can just create disk images as he describes and mount them.

I am not sure why you did not just post this tutorial instead of requesting me to describe a workflow.

In the time it took me to research a workflow for Pacifist for a link for the OP, it seems he spent 6 hours of wasted time.

Michael:

Have you ever "uninstalled" Rosetta after installing it on a Lion or Mt. Lion Mac? and

I believe you told me earlier you do not use FCS2. Is that correct and if so what is your connection to offering so much repeated installation advice about a product that you do not use yourself?

I note that I also do not use FCS2, but I am attempting to get a copy to attempt to implement the Jeremy Johnstone "Text Edit" solution (no dangers of using Terminal). Unfortunately, all sources of purchasing a copy of FCS2 are just too expensive for me with no ultimate need for the program, after I figure out how to install it.

If you know of a copy of FCS2 that can be "lent" to me for "fair use" educational means of figuring out how to install it (and thereafter erasing that copy from my Mac), please let me know.

There's a workflow for Pacifist on this link? I just loaded this page and did a search for pacifist. Nothing there.

No I haven't ever uninstalled Rosetta, I didn't know there was a way. Is there? I've installed Rosetta and installed FC6 for 3 or 4 clients with newer Macs that came with Lion or Mountain Lion, WITHOUT ANY ISSUES as I've said before.

FCP installations can fail for many reasons. not just Rosetta, or Pacifist or your ternimal method. If you had been monitoring and participating in this forum for the last 12 years, you'd be aware of that.

Thanks for the "off-handed" insult...

I am not a FCP expert, as apparently you hold yourself off to be.

My area of focus is Rosetta since Lion, Mt. Lion and now Mavericks no longer include it.

So I would have no interest in monitoring and participating in this forum prior to the 2+ years ago that Lion was released...
