Those requirements are listed at the bottom of: http://www.apple.com/mac/imovie/
"Accessing iMovie Theater content on all your devices requires an iCloud account and an Internet connection. iCloud account setup requires a supported iOS device or Mac computer. iMovie for Mac requires OS X Mavericks, 2GB of RAM (4GB recommended), an OpenCL-capable graphics card, and a display with 1280-by-800 resolution or higher."
and here's a list of OpenCL cards for Mac:

Do you know if the card can be replace ? and where can i buy it?
Thank you !
Actually I also have the same message when I tried to update using Appstore.
But yesterday, somehow there was a balloon message appearing at the top right corner asking me to update to the new iMovie. Click on it and it begin to download.
After downloading, the old iMovie will be moved to a folder in Application folder -> still able to use.
The new iMovie is also able to open without any error.
i am seeing this happening to others as well. i just posted on a similar thread about this situation.
can you confirm runtime that you are indeed on an unsupported machine/card and that the update and application still works for you without issue?
I am using a iMac 24 inch, early 2008.
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
The new iMovie seems to be working.
This is the same card in myiMac. How did you update? I cannot get past the message saying that my card does not meet the requirements.
Thanks.
It is a easy fix to this problem.
I have this video card
iMac 24 inch, early 2008.
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB .
This is what you do.
1. open app store.
2.go to the update tab.
Yuo will see the imovie icon waiting to install.
3.clic the sub menu tab and select "try apdate in an hour" option from the sub menu.
4.leave the app store window open and came back in an 1hr .
Like magic you will see the imovie app being upgrade it in the lunch pad .
enjoy it.
I did get a new notification from the App Store to udate iMovie. This time I clicked on UPDATE and it worked! After installation iMovie 10 seems to be working, and iMovie 9 was moved to a folder in Applications. I suspect that not all new features of iMovie 10 will work with old graphics cards.
Thanks all.
lo and behold, this "trick" works...
i can confirm that after seeing the error message when clicking the update button, simply using the sub menu to install later does indeed work. iMovie X installs in the background after the designated time, launches and performs without any issues.
of course, no idea WHY it works when the error message says it shouldn't... but for anyone out there wondering this is simple and straightforward solution to the issue.
I've also been getting an error message when trying to update iMovie. I have a Macbook Air 11-inch (late-2010). Could it be the display that's the problem as it doesn't have a "display with 1280-by-800 resolution or higher"? It's 1366 x 768 - higher overall than the minimum but less vertically.
If so that would mean that iMovie 10 is also not compatible with the newest 11inch MBA as it has the same resolution display, which seems unlikely, but I'm clutching at straws.
This helped me. My specifications are the same as yours, excepting that my iMac is from "mid 2007" The "try update in an hour" option has not been offered. I guess I have to stay with and accept the existing iMovie's more limited capacities.
I was able to install iMovie 10. What a waste of effort and disk space! I will continue to use IMovie 9, and from what I have read I am not the only one.
I use iMac 21 inches (Late 2012 version).
I am the one who have the problem of "not be able to upgrade iMovie 10". I updated to IOS Maverik a month ago. And, it is notification for the app update. After I visited the app store and click update all (which included the iMovie), everything seem to go well except for the iMovie. It took very long time for the iMovie update and I cann't wait.
Right now, it is still iMovie version 9 (yellow one).
Today, I am trying to use iMovie and it is saying that I have to update it. When I click the update, it show "installed" and I look at the Laucnh Pad, it looks like it is updating with the bar under the icon in white for a long time. What should I do?
