Bonjour through local network not working after Mavericks install

I usually use bonjour to message friends when we are in the same room without internet (and just connected through a local network). after getting mavericks, i can no longer log in when only connected to local network (though i seem to have no problems logging in to messages when actually connected to the internet. reboot didn't help; i made sure bonjour was still enabled, it is. Any thoughts?

Wierd. I'm seeing the same problem in Mavericks. I even decided to do a clean install, thinking it might be left over fluff from previous upgrades, and still see the problem.

In my case I can do a workaround but it is annoying to have to do this every time I need to access a networked scanner and printer. I unplug the power to my hub, wait a few seconds and plug the power back in. After doing that the networked scanner suddenly shows up, as does the networked printer. Things will be OK for a few days but then the printer and scanner disappear until I pull the power and replug again.

I still haven't figured out a permanent solution. Mavericks is pretty buggy still.

Never had this problem with any other version of Mac OS X (well, except for that networking snafu that happened some years back wherein every Mac where I worked that got a networking update got kicked off of the network by the update).
