I would like to reinstall my operating software for a fresh start. My system has been slow. However I do not want to lose all of my data, what is the easiest way to reinstall the software without losing my data. Thanks

First of all, you should have backups if you do not want to lose your data.
Also it would be helpful if you kept your profile up-to-date, your profile indicates you are using Lion 10.7.2, however I suspect that is not correct. What version of OS X do you run, once we have some basic information we can assist.
I would like to reformat the drive instead of restore
To reinstall OS X and leave your data alone simply restart in Recovery, then choose Install OS X and follow the prompts. If you don't know how to restart in Recovery, when you hear the startup tone hold down the OPTION key and choose Recovery Partition.
Before you do anything though BACKUP!!!!!!!!!!!
