After updating to Mavericks, Pages is crashing whenever I save

I have an older version of Pages from iWork '08 I've never updated it because I don't use it that much and don't really need any other features for what I do. Now that I've updated my OS to Mavericks everytime I save Pages either crashes or freezes. I've Never had any issues with Pages on previous OS updates. Is there a way to update pages to a version that will be more compatible with Mavericks without rebuying a program I already own?

Pages 08-OTHER, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

I upgraded to mavericks earlier this month and had the referenced trouble opening the pages 09 documents the I was working on after I made changes . Here's what I found. Clicking on the pages icon in the tool bar opened pages 09 in iwork, yet the edited documents were saved as the new "mavericks pages" update documents which pages 09 and a separate mountain lion based desktop is unable to open. In the finder applications feature, the new pages program is listed as a separate app which can be opened and then the document can be accessed. It can be dragged to the toolbar. Previously unaccessable documents can be opened using the file/open feature in the new pages. In the iwork folder in finder applications, pages 09 still exists. Text from the document in the new pages can be copied and pasted into pages 09 which then works as before. It's not a perfect fix as documents saved in mavericks pages seem to lose prior versions, but it a work around that helped me and allowed me to transfer documents to a machine without the upgrade.
