my iTunes id password does not work in mavericks

I installed Mavericks then went to open iBooks and tried to update more software via the App Store. In both iBooks and the App Store, a message appears under the ID box that reads, "An unknown error has occurred" when I enter my ID and Password information. Is there a known way to fix this problem?

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Was about to post this before I read here. I updated to Mavericks and 10.1.2 iTunes and also can't sign in getting unknown error message. It's really frustrating as I purchase a lot of music via the iTunes store!


On another note, I am able to login to the App store and iBook fine... It's ONLY iTunes.
