I tried installing mavericks and i always get "This copy of the Install OS X Mavericks application can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading."

I know this is a stupid question but I'm new to Apple OS's - how do I find the downloaded OS X file to delete it? I've looked in files but don't see it.

I had this same problem. I tried verifying and repairing disk, but the thing that finally worked for me was to start my download on a different internet connection. I used the 3G on my phone to download the first 50 mb, pressed pause and then finished on my home connection.

This error is probably due to an invalid certificate if the system date is in the past.

Please fix this in the Yosemite binaries. It must be causing headaches for many people.

I also had the same problem when I tried to install Yosemite from the USB Flash drive. The same error message. Turns out, for some strange reason my MBP 17" system's clock was "stuck" in year 2000. Had to use Terminal to adjust date (https://bensmann.no/changing-system-date-from-terminal-os-x-recovery/), then restarted Yosemite installation and no problems.

the date change can be done through system prefs/date & time – turn off "set date and time automatically", then reset date. (revert once the job is done, obviously.)

i am presently using this fix for yosemite, so the built-in problem endured for at least one further iteration.

I just had the same thing happen to me today (Tuesday, November 1, 2016). per the instructions here: http://blog.mconserv.net/2013/10/install-os-x-mavericks-application-cant.html setting the date to a specific time in which the OS X version you are trying to install was current should work.

here's what I did:

*go to "utilities" and click on "terminal"

*set the date to the example in the URL above by running this command in the terminal window: date 102613152013

*close out of terminal and resume installation of OS X

I also did what Bill_04 did. However I was having trouble finding terminal so I decided to write a description of where to find it in case someone else has this problem. You have to go the top where the apple logo is and then to the right of that go on utilities>terminal.

Set Date and Time manually in Terminal.

Thank you for the response, yes I change the date and time several times and f¡different dates to October 2013 to MAy 2014 and the same error text, I download 3 Mavericks app from Apple and the same.

You have to set the YEAR to the year your machine was released or the next year, in your case 2009 or 2010.
