Lost my data due to a software update. How do I recover it?

I updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 7.0.2. I had difficulty restoring after it went into recovery mode. The same thing happened with 7.0. This time, when I restored, I lost everything except for contacts and calendar. My icons are ungrouped, although they are still there. My music is still there. My clock was reset to default, and email addresses are not there, so my notes are gone, along with my photos, and all of the data that was stored within my apps, like a movie library and health readings. I am frustrated that I lost all of this due to just an ios update! What can I do to get my photos and notes back?? I have tried to restore my backup, but it's just not including anything that should be there... Can anyone help me?
