I'm clicking "download" in the app store for Mavericks and nothing happens. Went to the purchases seciton and it's there with a download link, when I click there it doens't download as well. Nothing happens....what to do?

There may be no apparent "progress bar" in the App Store. It may be a bug associated with this particular download.
To determine if it is actually downloading use Launchpad. You should see a fairly obvious new icon with an associated progress bar. Make sure you check every Launchpad page by swiping left / right.

The trick was flicking the pages on the Launchpad and seeing the X icon. It was paused and clicking it started the download. You need to look at the bar below the launchpad icon and it will be showing the download progress.
