Q: Window Tabs: dragging the window tab to the desktop

Window Tabs: Tried to grab the top of the finder window and wound up dragging the window tab to the desktop.

This creates a mini-window have to logout to remove.

If you right click on the finder icon in the dock and select show all windows they are in the list selecting them seems to do nothing but return you to the desktop.

What the heck is it?

Started this thread so Apple would be aware and have an opprotunity to make the fix.

Hope they can put it in the first update.

Apple doesn't monitor these forums for much more than terms of use. It is a user to user help forum.

safe boot, new install, nothing works.

additionally, the number keys are dead.

yet in calculator hitting a number key moves the cursor around like is was some pixel navigator circled around the "5"

What exactly made you choose this thread to hijack? Your issuse have nothing to do with the Finder animation getting stuck. Start a new thread of your own.

sorry, but I AM responding to the problem of the "stuck window animation" when dragging a finder window tab. and again SORRY: I think I have the solution. I downloaded the Maverick installer with my MacBook Air and copied it to my iMac to install. I think a new download on the right machine will solve the problems, as a thread in MacWorld hints at "First you choose a system language and keyboard layout." and disfunctional number keys and loudness disabled from my keyboard are another problem that came at the same time.

Interesting, but I downloaded the installer direct to my mac (and made a back-up copy).

I ran a complete flush of all caches, disk repair and diskwarrior repair before installing.

Everything has worked fine with the update except for this bizarre window tab glitch.

I did also post to the link provided by Barney to the Apple feedback site—hopefully they will check out this thread (link to here provided).

    I had this issue too.

I am wondering if any of you people were/are also running XtraFinder or perhaps any other Finder modifying software?

Before installing Mavericks I had been using the excellent XtraFinder to add tabs to my Finder windows. After installing Mavericks, I decided to remove XtraFinder as the new OS had tabs built-in!

Then I started to see this weird little windows thing. As with some of you here, it didn't happen in a new account on the same Mac but it did happen if I started my account in Safe Mode!

So in a bid to rule out XtraFinder as the cause, I installed it again, ran it, then uninstalled it - using the provided uninstaller.

My tabbed Finder windows (when dragged to separate them) are now working as expected.

Caveat: I'm still not entirely sure if XtraFinder is what caused the issue in the first place but installing/uninstalling it again, seems to have fixed it for me.

i didnt bother to in/uninstall xtraFinder, instead installed TotalFinder. the automatic width feature lured me into it.

Yep. Same problem. When I drag a tab I get these little miniature windows but they don't disappear when I drop the tab.

btw: totalfinder comes with a price, what else.

and i dont just mean the price tag.

on my imac the opening of drives, folders is sometimes considerably slowed down, sometimes i have to click several times to get a reaction, and sometimes, when a vertical scrollbar is too short, i cant scroll down with my scroll wheel or click on the scroll bar. no way. i have to make the window higher to scroll down …

Same here. Whenever I drag a tab out of a window it changes from a tab into a tiny representation of the newly created window. As soon as I release the mouse button the new window opens. This is normal behaviour.

However, when I close the window the tiny representation stays on the desktop. This is not normal behaviour I suppose...

Is the bug gone? Not on my system. In my case, running 10.9.1, also installing/uninstalling TotalFinder or XtraFinder was to no avail. Although with XtraFinder installed dragging a Tab out of a window doesn't create a tiny preview of that window.

    Happy new year everybody!
