I hate the new tags in Mavericks, need coloured folders!!

of course you can sort by tags and/or labels.

simply look in the view menu of the finder.

Apple has never shyed away from "chasing away at least some of their traditional users." They didn't hesitate to get rid of the floppy disk drive. They chucked the DVD drive without a second thought. It's you who are behind the eight ball. You can easily retrograde back to what you find to be acceptable tags. Of course there's the matter of putting out lots of money to replace software.

This is a weak argument and like so many other posts it attempts to depict those of us who lament the lack of labelling as luddits who can't accpet or dont understand the big picturem and march of progress, the improvement, the essence of forward thinking that Apple represents and has implemented on otehr occasions in the past. That is a rather condescending representation of many of us who like yourselves have been are still remain avid supporters of the Apple way. However there is a distinct difference in eliminating floppy disk drive and other eccepted norms of the time (wether people initially liked it or no), and the removal of an particular functionalty that people had incorporated into their work flow and system of archiving and sorting. Apple chose to eiminate this, and many of us are pointing out that we feel thats wrong. Pointng out to us that we should let Apple know that via their official feedback rather than moan about it here is somewhat redundant, as we are aware of that and have in most cases done, so. Howeve that official process is somewhat of a black hole, Apples culture of secrecy does not give any indication of wether we are being listened to or not. Hense fourms such as this offer a platform for possible solutions and indication if other feel the same, if anyone knows of possible forthcoming changes and if nothing else aleast a chance to vent. Pointing out how we are somehow not cool or clever enough to "get it" and right direction that Apple is deciding for us is rather irritating. Apple, wonderfull as they are have been known to screw up occasionally..both with major products and smaller OS functionality. No we are not "forced" to accept any such changes. But now who is being dumb. In the strictest sense no we are not forced. But there is a constant process of upgrading that at some point sooner or later becomes obligatory to maintain any semblence of usage bothwithin Apples own eco system and third party software and periferals. So to all you multipointed advisors here, alI would say is thank you, you fullfil a wonderfull role and are constantly of immediate usefullness and advice in resolving issues, but sometimes you come across as talking down. i.e. Apple don't care "about kowtowing to old users that try to hold them back" Really???? Is that how you see it. I saw it as a request to continue including a functionality that I found very usefull. Does that categorize me and the many others who share my opinion as being so antiquated??? We are not advocating the removal of tags or any other wonderfull direction Apple has in store, we are just asking for the ability to color label as well. I really don't think that represents us wanting to go backwards.

As on previous you really seem to have troube understanding me. There was no question per say, it was more a comment, observation and defence if you will. Namely, that just because some of us lament the loss of this coloured folders feature, does not mean we wish to keep Apple in a state of stagnation. Its more a discussion point of why can't we have both tags and colored lables? So in a round about way I guess that was the question. And befor you tell me AGAIN, yes I have commuicated this through the official Apple feedback process. But Mr Cook did'nt respond, nor anyone else for that matter. Thats understandable, I'm sure they are busy. So I raised my observations here as well. Hopefully that clarifies somewhat.....

There is a little confusion between software and hardware in the post of yours.

And a curious vision of the world in a windows / OS X duality - surprising, here, to me anyway.

I mean - what's windows? That isn't on my horizon.

And replacing software? OS X is unix, you know. There's no replacing needed as far as I'm concerned. Apple has the edge just because the interface is comfortable, and because I've used it for years.

Their slow drift towards consumer electronics and a gadgety finder losing functionality from a "serious" (there I said it) perspective is ... of concern.

Now its my turn to not understand you, You cherry picked my previous comments so that the greater context and question was lost. Why?. Nevretheless answer you, I'll explain again. I came to what I understood to be a discussion thread, the subject of which was that of the removed feature of being able to color label files and folders. I came to intially see if it was something I was doing wrong, (as I belive did many others) and then realized that was not the case, and the labeling issue was a decision on Apples part. I then read more posts hoping there might be a work around. Which apparently there is up to a point using a thrid party app which I'm a bit uneasy about. I offered my opinion of why I thought this decison of Apple's was wrong and wondered why both the tags and colored lables might not coexist. Techinclally there may be a reason for that and I hoped someone might explain it here. Instead of responding to that you have consistenlty attempted to demean my involvement. So forgive me if I appear to be somehow misusing or misunderstanding the true purpose of these discussion threads. So to answer your somewhat contrived question, maybe now you do understand "quite frankly" why I would come to a tech support group. It was very much to ask questions. Questions to which despite your numerous responses, you have not actually addressed or even discussed the actual topic, merely questioned instead what I was actually doing here. Sorry if all this comes across as a waste of your time. So lets keep it simple...

Question. Technically speaking is there a compelling reason why colored labels cannot be used instead of or along with the tagging features. If there isn't then is it a subjective non tecnical decision on the part of Apple as some percieved overall improvement? If is the latter then my next question, based on the accumulated experince and famiiarity with Apple that many advsiors here have. What is the likelyhood of Apple reintroducing the labeling feature. (yes I know thats not a genuine tech support question and therefore has no place here, but indulge me, I'm asking it anyway as I'm sure many others wouldbe interested in the answer).
