Mar 9, 2014 8:02 AM in response to Pontotoc Pegby imac-since-late2013,Actually, in my humble opinion the operating system
should use nothing more than just tags. No directories, no folders.
Tags have the great advantage one needs physically only single copy of one item,
they enable you to have visible at several places that item in single instance.
Using folders/directories one needs to create as much copies of the item
as much places one wants to have the item be placed.
Also shortcuts/aliases do not show this nice property of tags.

Mar 9, 2014 8:02 AM in response to imac-since-late2013by Pontotoc Peg,Tags are functional for many people. Those of us who prefer labels or even like both systems, merely want the labels back--not the tag option removed.

Mar 9, 2014 2:26 PM in response to Robert Byrdby Grrregerrr,Robert Byrd, if that is true and irrevocable ('Apple is not going to give us back labels'), there'd be no reason for me (us) to continue coming back to this thread with the anticipation of great news... except maybe to hear, from the very source, why on earth such a regrettable decision was made. Other than helpful 3rd-party software, a return-to-ML suggestions, and a warning to read reviews before upgrading, it has been a bit like attending a funeral where no one knows how/why the deceased died.

But we do know that the deceased died. Why does not change that.

Mar 9, 2014 4:46 PM in response to Csound1by Cableaddict,We also know who pulled the trigger.
The fact that Apple still hasn't addressed this, nor the brutal "DS.Store" problem, tells you all you need to know about the company's basic direction these days.
The Apple Computer we once knew is dead & gone.

Mar 11, 2014 12:14 AM in response to MattJayCby afurley,Yes, all of Office behaves this way, thank goodness.
I am with everyone else in this thread.
The tags are a good idea, they just should not have replaced the 'labels' completely. A Jonnie Ives idea I suspect - smacks of minimalism, of function following form. The related gripe is the way we lost the colour of icons in the Sidebar (in Lion, I think).
Ah well, just keep shouting and may be Appeople will respond

Not sure if its been covered in the long thread, but I found when I go to open a file in Excel under mavericks, the old labels still show!
Yes in a few other App's ads well. Its a bug. Send feedback to Apple to remove this from Excel.
