Q: I hate the new tags in Mavericks, need coloured folders!!

Is there a way to return the colour folders when using the new tags like the old behavior of labels? These new circle thingees are too small and barely noticable.

The problem is you are asking a new question in an old thread (and largly ignored thread, by many, because of the repetitive bickering) You would be best advised to try asking that question in a new thread. Get freash interest. I would be surprised if a knowledgable poster who steers clear from this thread did not have a terminal command to solve your issue.

So, Pete.  How do I mark your response as 'helped me' so you get a gold star?

You can only do that if you started the thread. It doesn't matter. There is no big deal about getting points. It's about helping each other on these user to user forums.

    Thank Alancito!

you I have just logged in my first Apple complaint ever, this is a VERY bad choice visually, and  really ruins one of my most used sorting features.

Hopefully all the gripes here will resonate with someone that implemented this poor "improvement"

    Very dismayed!

Hey folks, I don't think you realize that this is a red letter day. Due to the diligence of grdh20, who deserves some kind of medal, and whose post is getting buried, we have a solution:

I have been using XtraFinder for years and have it installed on Mavericks, and love it.

I missed this update. Thanks for letting us know. I have just updated and set the Preferences for legacy color labels. Hurray, it works!

Thanks Tranky Nam you are a blessing to OSX!

Now if only Apple would do the same, the fear and loathing may eventually subside.

So you are saying 'I like them!" Never found that compelling.

People like all sorts of things, believe all sorts of things. I like to have reasons and analysis.

I have no objection to tags, in fact I was looking forward to them. I had Tagit on my old system but it is always better to have these things integrated.

However you only have to see the two side by side:

Labels prior Mavericks and Tags in Mavericks to see which is immediately clearer.

Apple chose the path of stuffing up Labels by throwing it into the soup of Tags. Now I really don't want to use either because they are so muddled.

I find that Apple is just grinding everyone down to the lowest tolerable denominator. Users just end up giving up productive and very useful features because Apple arbitrarily removes them or handicaps them to the point of uselessness. Their latest versions of the iWork suite are a prime example.

Since the start of your trolling in this thread and suggesting nothing of value on the topic, you now claim that you

have been using XtraFinder for years and have it installed on Mavericks, and love it.

You never saw this as a relevant piece of advice for those here looking for an alternative? Not once in the off-topic responses you have bombarded this thread with for months?

You never even thought to suggest it to anyone? But now someoone else mentions it, you come up with

    "Oh, yeah, I knew that!"?

Your record of rude and unhelpful comments in this thread are there for anybody to read. And there are many, many of them. But never a mention of XtraFinder till now?

    Pete

Sadly Labels were/are far too limiting to be of any value to me, so a 3rd party add-on for those who can use them is fine with me.

Tran Ky Nam has really pulled the rabbit out of the hat.

XtraFinder 1.9.1 applies the full length color label whilst retaining the Mavericks tags.

If you look at the Sample 1.pages file you can see the multiple Tag dots to the right.

The full label highlight is that of the last applied Tag. So if you add another tag you have to reinstate the preferred label color by turning it off and on again to make it the latest.

Well, grdh20, you're my hero! I downloaded the app and it works! I'm rubbing my eyes to ensure it's not some flashback. I gave it a couple of days to see if someone might report a bug or a catch. I'm only into this 10 minutes... but there it is! Coming back to this thread for the past 5 months and even surviving the Pete Wars has been well worth it!
