Q: I hate the new tags in Mavericks, need coloured folders!!

Is there a way to return the colour folders when using the new tags like the old behavior of labels? These new circle thingees are too small and barely noticable.

Amazing how apple would ignore the wished of it's users. I'm powering up my older 24" imac with an op system that had folder colors and where I can still use the loads of applications I had on that maching, likd Illustrator, PS, Office. My newer 27" Imac would not run those programs, it's very expensive to buy those programs again, so I'll simply go back to my 24" imac. Wake up Apple!! Give us back our folders!!

It's Christmas in March!!!!!! Thanks to DABbiofor reposting the awesome solution, XtraFinder, from grdh20 I just dropped in (after giving Apple some feedback on their useless tags) to see if folks were still angry —yes. And, of course, thanks to Trankynam.com. Back in the land of functionality!!!

I know, Susan! It's been a week that I downloaded Xtrafinder and was restored colored label functionality. It SO augments how I work... and, makes me wonder how much further visual cueing can be taken: animated or flashing folders for the most relevant items/jobs?

You said 'folks'. Try 'some folks' or a feel folk' and don't generalise.

I like the tool XtraFinder but (1) it won't do anything in Desktop view and (2) those distracting tag-dots are still all over the place like it's a New Years Eve party. I hate confetti - I need to work and be able to focus on the names of my files and find them with my eyes and not by typing into a tags-search-box just to get 100000 wannabe results.

Not getting what you are getting.

You always have had to be careful to try and find somewhere away from a folder when dropping files in OSX. If that is what you want. It worked much better in Classic Mac OS.

XtraFinder lets you turn on Cut and Paste like in Windows. This is much better than the perilous and very slow Drag and Drop method and much more accurate. But I have found it is a bit flighty in XtraFinder, occassionally it seems to just drop off. Tran does say it is a beta feature.

A better method is to have a Finder tab for the target folder and drag the file/s to the tab.

There are 2 items that I have given as feedback to Tran:

    1. Text reverses to white on labeled folders, even when the label color is light.

    2. It is fairly easy to accidentally close a Finder tab with command w when the focus hasn't shifted in OSX as expected. It would be nice if XtraFinder's behavior matched Safari's and command z would bring back the deleted tab.

It's just that with the labels in Xtrafinder set to "on", the "area away from a folder" is auto extended to the longest label even on areas which have no labels. It's messing me up, and I agree with you about the stupid dots still all over the place. I'm basically just using color folders now in my workflow to be able to see certain folders at a glance. I color code the folders to match the tags for consistancy.  I use an app called folderbrander.  I still hold out some hope that Apple will at some point give us the choice of lables or tags.
