Q: I hate the new tags in Mavericks, need coloured folders!!

Is there a way to return the colour folders when using the new tags like the old behavior of labels? These new circle thingees are too small and barely noticable.

    Thank you.

You already have a thread with this question: https://discussions.apple.com/message/25744098#25744098

This thread is for a different "discussion".

But that is not the question, read the thread subject again.

And If you have this question I recommend starting a thread and asking it.

Dear HappyTexas, I’ve given a tick-VG to your post that starts with “I won't be using third-party software to save my Apple files”.

Something is rotten in the state of California, but I know I’m not the first one to say that about the Apple Core.

Dear 56-year-old Steve: Oh, wow, it would be so good if you stopped spinning on your own axis in the Alta Mesa Memorial Park and returned to Cupertino.

As one who’s been using Apple creations ever since my neat little Macintosh Plus in 1985 I’m now wishing there was a viable alternative operating system for my Mavericks-meddled MacBook. But in any case from now onwards I’ll be uncommonly wary whenever a message on my screen invites me to “update” my  system—in other words to sabotage it even further.

There are many alternative OS's that will run on your MacBook.  There's Window, Linux, Unbutu, to name a few.

You can't.  You can, however, try switching to de-caf

"I won't be using the third-pary applications the trolls on these forums push in lieu of useful commentary.  Their insistence that their way is the only way only leads me to believe firmly that they are expecting to cash in on my use of  their probably faulty products.  It's especially suspicious when they keep insisting their products are the only thing to do while they ignore completely the original question."

The people here who are informing us of thrd party applications that provide for the missing Colored Labels the Apple removed are NOT trolls. We are all dissapointed thet Colored Labels have been removed in Mavericks and being to find ANY replacement is better than doing without.

While you may be willing to stick it out, hoping that Apple will install Colored Labels in Mavericks, I, like many others, am not willing to suffer. Personally, I went back to Mountain Lion. Others are sticking with Mavericks and adding XtraFinder or TotalFinder to regain Colored Label access.

If and when Apple adds the Colored Labels to Mavericks, we'll all win. But until then, we will each deal with the situation as it best suits us.

    Dear Doug:

At no point of time in the history of the world have I asked for labels, colors, colored labels, label colors, or any amalgamation of those words.

I will never use labels.  I  will never use colors.  I will never use colored labels.  I will never use label colors.  I will never use any amalgamation of those words.

The aggressive pushing of third-party apps that work with labels and colors are of no value to me.  They never have been.  However, it seems that the trolls who push them so vigorously have the same problems with reading comprehension as you do.  Again, I have never asked for labels, colors, or any combo of the two.  I just don't use them.  I never will.  I have no reason to ask to make them better because I don't care to know how they work now.  They are quite simply irrelevant in my world.

We share frustrations but we obviously do not share the same problem.  I'm hoping yours and mine, separately, are resolved sometime soon.

I'm a bit confused here. This whole discussion is based on the loss of Colored Labels in leiu of their new Tags. If you have absolutely no interest in them in the first place, why are you posting here? What exactly is your issue with Mavericks then?

He couldn't get the answer he wanted in the (at least) 2 threads he started on how to turn off auto-complete when adding a tag, so he hijacked this thread and threw-up all over it.

I noticed a bug in Total Finders color labels option. When you have it on and copy and pastes a folder inside a finder window, the finder window does not auto refresh after the copy/paste operation. It leaves the pasted folder looking greyed out until you manually refresh the finder window or you doewuble clikc on the pasted folder. With TotalFinder color labels unchecked, it works as expeceted as it does with Xtrafinder's  color label option, but as I have said before, Xtrafinder's option has it's own issues. So none of these solutrions are really working 100% yet.

Yeah, grdh20, I have two issues with ExtraFinder, too, but can live with them. Otherwise, I love it! Thanks for the insight about TotalFinder, because I've wondered if I should switch (pay the $18). Someone on this thread will probably tell you to bring your findings with the developer, lol!

Both solutions are definitely a work in progress, but it is better than having no solution at all.

I can only speak for the TotalFinder developer, but he seems very attentive based on his blog, and he has anwered all my personal email requests very promptly.

    Hello all,

After 105380 Views, 1,288 Replies since Oct 23, 2013 6:45 PM (now about seven months later) and with probably many feedbacks to Apple, not one Apple reaction yet.

Either Apple is not at all interested or never looks into the Apple support communities discussions, it is very sad that Apple doesn't give their users the possibility of using tags and labels.

Xtrafinder is OK, but not great (it is free, which is great, but it doesn't have the same finesse of the 'long time gone' Apple coloured labels).

It would be very nice indeed if Apple would bring back coloured labels,

but maybe Apple needs time to admit that it would be a good idea to do so?

Keep calm and optimistic. Cheers, have a nice day/night!
