Q: I hate the new tags in Mavericks, need coloured folders!!

Is there a way to return the colour folders when using the new tags like the old behavior of labels? These new circle thingees are too small and barely noticable.

    How do you know?

Apple's reaction may be the recently introduced OS X Beta Seed Program which allows users to try out pre-release versions of OS X.

"Help Apple Make OS X even better by letting us know of any quality and usability issues you encounter." [Source: FAQ]

...If that program had been in place before the initial public release of Mavericks, perhaps the situation with the colored labels could have been avoided.

    Tags are not color labels

Why is this so hard for apple to understand?

    To quote Rosanne Cash

    “A feathers not a bird

The rain is not the sea

A stone is not a mountain

But a river runs through me”

The reason I am so concerned about bringing back color labels is that I am “visually challenged” and have been a life-long Apple customer (Apple’s life).  I use color labels to organize my files and have 7 Tb of folders so labeled. When I uploaded Mavericks it disabled all my colored labels and replaced them with a tag that is difficult for me to see. I had shell out $350.00 to undo the damage (this is not a simple thing to do, if you don’t believe me, try it).

I have been trying to contact Apple for months but cannot get through to them.  Tomorrow I will go to the closes Apple store, equipped with my Steve Jobs mask, some posters, water and a sandwich.  I plan to occupy apple until I get some answers.  I am hooked on Apple so to begin with I will not be contacting the media.  Wish me luck.  You may not see this post because the Apple cops have been taking them off.

Good luck. Personally I would just download something like XtraFinder and make life simple, but as I prefer Tags, please don't speak to them on behalf of me.

It's a very simple thing to do if you have a Time Machine backup (see: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14176)

THANKS, APPLE- ADDING "TAGS" TO THE APPLICATIONS/FEATURES YOU'VE RUINED.

BEST OF APPLE SNATCHING DEFEAT FROM JAWS OF VICTORY:

    ITUNES

    PODCASTS APP

    ICLOUD

    IMESSAGE

    MATCH

    IPHOTO

    ILIFE

    SAFARI (SINCE DAY 1)

    FINAL CUT "PRO"

    AND NOW:

    TAGS

STEVE IS ROLLING OVER IN HIS GRAVE. PS, IBOOKS IS WELL ON ITS WAY TO BEING A MESS ON PAR WITH THE ORIGINAL ICLOUD AND PODCASTS APP. REMEMBER THE MASS FIRINGS OVER ICLOUD, WHEN STEVE WAS ALIVE? WHY DO YOU THINK HE DID THAT? EVER CONSIDER IT MAY BE A WISE COURSE OF ACTION FOR THE PODCASTS, ITUNES, ICLOUD, AND TAGS TEAMS, GIVEN THE HORRIFIC STATE OF THESE APPS/FEATURES? I REALIZE YOU'RE BASICALLY A MOBILE PHONE COMPANY NOW, AND YOU HAVE MORE MONEY THAN GOD, BUT GUESS WHO ELSE HAS BOATLOADS OF MONEY- SHATTY PRODUCT COMPANIES LIKE MICROSFOT, SHATTY POP STARS LIKE KATY PERRY, SHATTY FILMMAKERS LIKE McG. THIS IS YOUR COMPANY RIGHT NOW. IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY. YOU DON'T HAVE TO KEEP GETTING WORSE IN ORDER TO KEEP PRINTING MONEY. RIGHT THE SHIP. GET BACK TO PRODUCT. SIMPLIFY. GIVE US OPTIONS. MAKE THINGS THAT ACTUALLY WORK.

QUICK TEST: EXPLAIN TAGS FEATURE TO SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE. DON'T SHOW THEM THE CURRENT RIDICULOUS INCARNATION, THE TINY DOT. SHOW THEM INSTEAD A FINDER WINDOW WITH DOZENS OF FOLDERS, FILES, WEIRD NAMING STRUCUTRES FOR THOSE FILES AND FOLDERS. ASK THEM WHAT A GREAT TAGGING SYSTEM SHOULD DO, WHAT IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE.

I PROMISE YOU THE ONE THING THEY WON'T SAY IS "GIVE ME A TINY DOT NOWHERE NEAR MY FILE NAME, MAKE IT HARD TO SEE AND HARD TO DISTINGUISH, AND HARD TO LINK VISUALLY TO THE CORRESPONDING FOLDER. ALSO ENSURE IT HAS NO METADATA. THANKS."

PLEASE, I BEG YOU, STOP MAKING SUCH USELSS PRODUCTS AND FEATURES. PLEASE. HELP US STAY IN LOVE WITH YOU.

Firstly, do not use all caps, it is see. As shouting and quite rude in forums. It is also very hard to read. My question would be, given the features of OSX that you complain about is why you are using Mavericks? I have no problems whatsoever with the apps you mention. The tags are a source of personal aggregation to some. Others seem to prefer them. As for your other complaints, then start a new and appropriate thread as there appears to something abnormal with your software/hardware setup.

Leave a link to the new thread here if you wish.

    Cheers

Apple claims not to monitor these forums beyond enforcing the TOU, to let them know of your concerns, use feedback:

Why can't you figure it out? I completely understand what Tags are for, and it is not to make pretty colors on your screen.

Who is or was this Roseanne Cash a developer for? I'm not familiar with the name or the relevance of the quote.
