Aug 5, 2014 7:13 AM in response to Madashelluphereby sturner6,XtraFInder is a third-party app that will give you back labels (colored folders) functionality in Mavericks. I've been using it for about a month now and it works perfectly with no system glitches.

Aug 5, 2014 1:37 PM in response to sturner6by petermac87,Doesn't let me multi tag files, so pretty much as limiting and useless as the old system that Apple thankfully got rid of.
But thanks for the constant reminders.

Hello RashaM10,
I have not gone over all the pages in this thread to see whether what I am about to ask has been asked already in the meantime - if so, please forgive me.
You have there a very interesting line-up of colours for your folders; now when I tried to change the colours according to Apple's own instructions (Mac Basics: changing the colours...), all I could do was change contrast, etc. and HUE. The Hue of the one colour that all my folders display, i.e. a kind of purplish-gray. I cannot get red, yellow, etc. as you have done.
Am I missing something?
Again, thanks for the indulgence.
I.K.O.

Aug 24, 2014 3:48 AM in response to Madashelluphereby pafo,Yes I agree. Tags make filing harder. Please Apple, enable coloured folders in Yosemite. Used Unsanity's 'Labels X' to customise Labels to colour folders for years, & have 46,000 colour coded folders using seven different colours. Then Labels X became incompatible with Apple OS when coloured names were introduced. Coloured names made writing too hard to read so couldn't use ,and have kept computers on OS10.6.8 to be able toi go on using Unsanity Labels X. Hoped Mavericks tags would be at last be useable instead, but circles are too small & colours too dim, and cant customise colour to match colours already in place for existing folders . Please please Apple configure Yosemite to enable tagging with coloured folders with seven customiseable colours.

Aug 26, 2014 10:33 AM in response to Madashelluphereby Vectorat,The dot labels are infuriating and god awful. I don't feel like typing out tags. That's a waste of time. Another example of Apple "fixing something that isn't broke and screwing up everyone's file organization in the process.

Aug 26, 2014 10:36 AM in response to Vectoratby Csound1,The ability to assign more than one category to a file has improved my organising of files. So I'll just disagree with you.

Aug 26, 2014 10:41 AM in response to Csound1by Vectorat,The text tag "done" doesn't even show up when I assign it. It's an absolute nightmare.

Aug 26, 2014 11:00 AM in response to Csound1by Vectorat, but more to the point it's not the added features.. it's what they took away. I had a giant block of color telling me which files where completed and done, now I have a pin sized dot that is barely noticeable. It's not the options that Apple adds that I'm upset with, it's when they take away something that works fine, and gives you no option to revert back to it.

Aug 26, 2014 11:42 AM in response to MichelPMby Vectorat,Thanks! I'm going to find a way to revert back. This new system is fine if you want to organize your weekend photos, but it's completely worthless if you're working on tons of files with a deadline approaching.. I shouldn't have to go through all of this. Apple really screwed this up.

Aug 26, 2014 11:54 AM in response to Madashelluphereby Vectorat,A million thank yous Madashelluphere , Now I can get back to work. Apple, If you don't revert back to the old color labels that span the length of the file name, I will never upgrade my IOS again.

Aug 26, 2014 1:25 PM in response to Vectoratby MichelPM,XtraFinder and Total Finder work just like the old Apple system with other benefits/functionality, as well.
Been using this for months on Mavericks and even works with the extra functionality on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
Both of these give you what you need.
Why revert when there are two solutions that will solve your issue?
If no backup of your previous OS version, the reversion process is long and tedious (basically a complete clean install from scratch and you will still need a way to back up all of your important data).
Why not just download and install one of the two solutions that will do as you need?
