Q: I hate the new tags in Mavericks, need coloured folders!!

Is there a way to return the colour folders when using the new tags like the old behavior of labels? These new circle thingees are too small and barely noticable.

    Hi,

A workaround might be to use custom icons for files and folders you want to color. There are many ways to do that.

    Hi,

A workaround might be to change to custom icons for your files and folders. An easy way is to use Preview.

Then why don't you tell them, we are just Apple users, like you. We can't 'unhurt' you.

Complain in the right venue, this is not it.

    Vectorat,

You make a great case for keeping the colored folders.  If I worked at Apple I would definitely strongly consider your argument, although I don't and I and Apple are probably from different planets, but you should write exactly what you wrote in a note to Apple like MichelPM suggested, it can't hurt and it may help, since it would add to the heap of feedback that they have received so far, and they are likely to be impressed by how much their product(s) is/are being used in pushing the envelope.  I am not a graphic designer type and not as graphically oriented as you are but you do present an excellent case to this old retired engineer, now a tired and don't even wannabe a wannabe farmer anymore.

By the way what is a UX?

UX is short for "User experience".  Lately the job postings of looking for a UX developer or UI (User interface) designer have exploded.

It's a new sort of discipline that requires designers to have some programing or coding experience. (which I do not, but am looking into it)  User interface I think is of of the look of the interface, button designs, icon designs color choices ex.. but User experience is more of how the navigation will work, how easy will a users experience be?  When you hit button x where will it take you, how do you get back to the home page or main menu, etc.

I'm sorry if this isn't the place to get upset, but this post is titled "I hate the new tags in Mavericks, need coloured folders!!"

Thanks, I think we used to call it human interface, user friendly, form, fit, and function, ...,   just different words and acronyms.  Each generation needs to own it with their own identifiers.

Sounds like it might be a good idea to learn some programming or coding, which should give you a leg up or a way to keep up with your compatriots and competitors.

Nobody - and by that I mean NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON ON PLANET EARTH - ever complained that the original method of color-tagging files was deficient in any way, and therefore needed to be changed.  So, why did they change it?  Because some worthless idiot middle-management type found himself in dire need of a line-item to put on his monthly report, in order to justify his worthless existence.  Just one more reason why a once-great company has turned into a piece of crap.

Oh, and you of course can prove this with some link of other evidence?

Some of us cannot do that as our employer had no choice but to upgrade. As a person working in a dept within that company this new way of labelling is utterly useless to me and makes my job slower and more difficult. After two hours of staring at little dots, praying I haven't missed any, my eyes are rely sore.

This change from a database point of view is a poor substitute for what we had before.

Please change to having a preference to use either the dots or change to full colour for people that actually used this part of the software.

I hate these tags. I look at 1000s of image codes per day. The labels were a great way of instantly seeing what we had done and what what yet to do. These dots are useless!

    :-(
