Oct 29, 2014 3:54 PM in response to ntsleeby petermac87,Tell Apple if you wish, but obviously nowhere near enough users felt the same and complained to Apple feedback as they have not been returned. You can try one more voice to this very old thread at feedback
But don't hold your breath. You can always try one of the third party installs mentioned many many times throughout this thread such as XtraFinda.
(Also using all Caps is considered as shouting and therefor rude in forums. Normal lower case is more effective and usually gains more help)
Good luck with it

Nov 8, 2014 11:18 AM in response to Madashelluphereby shanejoe,I was able to get it back, its a 3rd party download, http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/43078/sideeffects/download
Instructions http://mac.appstorm.net/reviews/graphics/putting-color-back-into-finder-with-sid eeffects/
check to see if PowerboxInjector.app is in Login Items (go to System Preferences - Users and Groups). If not, click the + sign and locate it in the Applications Folder.
Now launch it using Spotlight (or from Applications).
It's a little intermittent, but it adds color to open / save in some apps.
Might have to reboot or try logging out then in after you do that and then it should always work, when it messes up just logout then log back in and your good
I don't recommend but you can also try http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/40989/colorfulsidebar

Nov 9, 2014 12:11 AM in response to shanejoeby peterleary,Hey shanejoe,
Thanks for the pointer be we are actually talking about the super useful feature that was removed that highlighted a file or folder, not the side bar.

Not these -
It's funny actually, when you have finder at fullscreen you pretty much have to get a ruler out to find out which tag relates to which file
Thanks

Nov 9, 2014 10:31 AM in response to peterlearyby sturner6,Solution to this is very simple; just download 3rd party app called EXTRAFINDER. I have been using it since Mavericks came out. Very easy to disable and/or remove if you decide it's not for you but I really doubt you'll want to do that!
Extrafinder not only restores the color highlighting but actually has a lot of other very useful options, like one that automatically sizes columns in Finder which I have found to be invaluable.
This app is extremely well designed, easy to use, and I have experienced no bugs or any other negative things. Somebody put a lot of time & effort into it to make it effective and trouble-free.
What's nice about this app compared to others with similar functionality is that this one applies all customization to Finder itself, not a third-party version of Finder (such as the way Pathfinder works, for instance). And the icing on the cake is that it is free, and is frequently updated. I highly recommend it

Nov 9, 2014 11:03 AM in response to sturner6by sturner6,Also, want to add...I find tags pretty useful and XtraFInder allows you to use both tags and labels. XtraFInder preference settings are VERY customizable to accommodate whatever your specific workflow might be. Just spend a few minutes to really get familiar with its' capabilities.
Lastly, don't pay attention to naysayers and negative people on this forum; there seems to be a lot of people that post to this forum only for the purpose of hearing themselves talk, and trying to pick fights with everybody (sort of an "anti-social" networking kind of thing I guess...LOL!)
Now, if somebody could possibly tell me how to restore shortcut keys to colored labels, I'd be eternally grateful. So far, I've seen a bunch of Youtube tutorial how to do this but none seem to work. Anyone have a clue??

Dec 13, 2014 12:50 PM in response to Madashelluphereby Carla prints,Mavericks dot 'Tags' are really unhelpful when you're used to full coloured strip. I found an app that someone wrote which allows you to customize elements to make up for some things that Mavericks doesn't do. I'm able to color folders, but it only shows when you view as single list in Finder window. Not ideal, but it's better than nothing. Please correct me if you find a way to view colored tags in column/lists.
The App is by Tran Ky Nam and can be found here: http://www.trankynam.com/xtrafinder/
I hope this resolves some frustration experienced with Mavericks silly little dots!

Dec 14, 2014 8:50 AM in response to Carla printsby Peohguy,Click on the XtraFinder icon in the top task bar to open up the XtraFinder window, click Preferences and open up the appearance tab and check the Legacy label color painting and the two boxes under it to get a little bit more colorizing. I'm not sure if that's enough, but it's all I can help you with.
Hope it works for you.

I'm trying to see how Peohguy got the options that he is describing... Can anyone explain how he got those menus to show up?

If you have XtraFinder then the top right of your ribbon on your iMack should look like this:
Just click on the XtraFinder happy face with your left Mouse button and you will get the drop down menu with Preferences showing like this:
Left Click on Preferences and you will get another Drop Down Menu. Left click on the Appearance Tab and check the Legacy label coloring box and the 2 others under it and what ever else you may desire.
Sorry for the clutter but someone said, I'm Confused who, that a picture is worth 10,000 words, yes 10,000, count them, and not 1,000 as is so commonly misquoted.
