Q: I hate the new tags in Mavericks, need coloured folders!!

Is there a way to return the colour folders when using the new tags like the old behavior of labels? These new circle thingees are too small and barely noticable.

    Imscott,do you,by any chance,have colour labels again?!

I don't usually use labels in Library, but as a reminder of what Mountain Lion offers, and what is missing (badly) in Mavericks,I give you.....colour labels via the attachment! Aren't they lovely! I feel like kissing the computer screen whenever I see the labels! Mountain Lion STILL roars!

Here is an interesting peak at how Labels are currently functioning (though hidden) in Mavericks, and how they already solve the multiple color selection issue.

They simply display the last color selected, in the same manner that Tags puts the last color selected on top of the tiny stack of dots. The screenshot below shows how this currently works as revealed by the Export dialogue in QuickTime 7.

In this example, I have named the files after the color and order in which I tagged them.

If Tags were designated their own column in list view, then Labels and Tags cold easily coexist in the Finder, serving different purposes and making everyone happy.

Yes, I am back to Mountain Lion and I have labels, beautiful color coded labels and organization. I feel the Mavericks is a terrible upgrade.............

I don’t visit these forums often, only when necessary, and even more rarely do I post.

But I did post in this thread, early on, a few times, to talk about the sad loss of Labels in Mavericks.

So I’ve kept an interested eye on the thread's ‘progress’. It’s no wonder that Apple don’t read or take notice of these forums if this thread is anything to go by. A good deal of it consists of individuals sniping at one another over petty and irrelevant personal nonsense.

It would be great if everyone could simply ignore all that and address the topic at hand. But given the evidence here, that seems unlikely.

I hope Apple reinstates Labels at some point in the future. In the meantime, let’s try to find a developer who can do a simple, one-job fix that will bring it back in the meantime for those who need it now. Tracy E's post about how QuickTime works surely points at some possibilities for the tech-savvy among us.

I agree....these is some really silly egos on this discussion thread that really should grow up.

    In the mean time, ......

I hate the new tags in Mavericks, and I need my coloured folders and file names back!!

Overall, I am sorry that I upgraded to Mavericks. It is a very poor MAC OSX release!

I have expressed my displeasure on the feedback form....I hope Apple listens to this and fixes this!

The loss of coloured Labels is a serious workflow disaster and it is unbelievable that Apple actually let these dots out the door in a major release. These tags are useless to me.

I feel very frustrated too: why did I upgrade to Mavericks?!

With MacOs X 10.2 Labels were taken away (Jaguar)

but then reintroduced in the following systems

let's hope Apple will do the same, SOON

The things like this that Apple seems to pay attention to in the long run seem to be the ones that get little write ups on the Apple news sites. Can we get any blogs to take notice of this request?

On a technical matter, whatever changes I make with "tags" in finder, show up as "labels" with the appropriate color in Pathfinder and Forklift, etc., and visa versa. So they are in fact riding the same code?  That tells me they in fact still do work and just need to be switched on somehow. I'm surprised a mavericks tweaker isn't already out.

Yes, my colored files and folders show up in excel, too.  Hurry, Apple. We want our color labels back in Mavericks.

A reminder - since the thread is so lengthy now, and all posts may not be read: Please leave feedback about this for Apple. It is the only sure way of making sure your opinion is known to Apple.

Here is a link to give feedback:

There's a secondary issue linked with Labels. In the flatten-all fury that has taken over the world like an army of orcs from Mordor, selected item background is now 3 or 4 pixels taller — the purpose being that multi-selection looks like (surprise!) a box. If anyone is fixing Labels, please restore selected item background to its proper height

    thx!

I agree.  I have trouble seeing the labels now.  I was so used to seeing the whole label one color, it made for very quick scan of a folder's contents.  But I have posted about 10 times today about problems and Apple keeps deleting them.
