Q: I hate the new tags in Mavericks, need coloured folders!!

Is there a way to return the colour folders when using the new tags like the old behavior of labels? These new circle thingees are too small and barely noticable.

ugh, again – Apple is "fixing" what's NOT broken. (i also hate that they removed "save as" from TextEdit.)

please bring back the colored labels or atleast give us the option to use them or not. this little dot does nothing to help me differentiate my files and everytime i "tag" a file, it makes my computer lag (how much processing power is it taking to tag a file?) there's also a bug when tagging where spacebar previews stop working on files like JPEGs and GIFs.

You will need to give feedback to Apple and hope that enough people are asking them to return the color labels that it may make them rethink their decision.

Yes,Pete, that's what we want,Apple to rethink. They could even look it as a Christmas present to us.

I would doubt it, but you can always live in hope. It depends on the amount of feedback they get as to whether they consider reimpementing it or not. I actually hope it does come back. I don't use them in my workflow, I have a different way of organising my files that suits me better, but it is obvious that many feel their workflow has been impeded with them being discontinued.

    Good Luck

    Really you don't use it?

It was the very first backflip Apple was forced to do when it launched OSX without Labels.

The howls of protest could be heard right up in the Rockies. The NEXT team fought it tooth and nail because it was not part of UNIX, but eventually had to give in. A very rare event.

I always site it as one of the reasons to have a Mac over Windows and of course Apple now takes it away or so emasculates it as to make it virtually taken away.

A typical method for me is to label, problems, work in progress, top choices, doubtful material etc.

There is no way that Apple can decide for the user a short list of reasons why they might want to differentiate files and folders. Labels were a brilliant, easy and obvious solution for this.

Tags whilst a good idea in themselves, should not replace labels. The two do different jobs. I can easily envision how I would tag a series of files and folders but then want to label them against different criteria as above.

Yes, really. Apple have a history of removing some commonly used features. Remember when Spaces and Expose were removed in favour of Mission Control? All he*l broke loose. Spaces was never returned as such, although Expose snuck back in (much to my pleasure). So we can never say never.

    Cheers

Save as is still in TextEdit hold down the option key when you go to the File menu, or use the (clumsy) keyboard shortcut (option shift command s)

Hi Wizard, I also sent an email asking for our labels back and suggesting he take a look at this forum discussion with nearly 20,000 hits.

"Hits" don't mean anything here because it's not limited to unique hits.

If I hit "refresh", the "hit count" will increase.

    Well, one Dev down...  "tweaksapp.com"

"And for the new coloured “dots”-labels, I can’t imagine a way for me to change this back to the old 10.8 labels. The system just don’t allow me. But I’m always trying new ways to bypass this … when I have time."

I still hold out hope to some 3rd party to figure this out, although I assume they would first need to see there is a demand for this tweak.

Actually, there doesn't need to be a demand for a tweak. All we need is someone with the talent to produce one who ALSO finds the loss of Lables as an issue worthy of dealing with. If I had the skill to do it, I'd certainly do it for my own satisfaction. Hopefully there is someone out there who CAN successfully take on the challange.
