Apple can bring back Lables if they so desire, and so would a hack of Finder.
Nothing you've said changes what I posted earlier today.

I agree with Tracy above, we should be able to have either/or both.
Tracy would be satisfied with a hack of Finder. Would you?
And I never said we shoud not have both, just stating the facts and choices (of which there are two -- Go back to ML, or use Pathfinder for now, and wait to see if Apple brings back Labels.

Actually, there doesn't need to be a demand for a tweak. All we need is someone with the talent to produce one who ALSO finds the loss of Lables as an issue worthy of dealing with. If I had the skill to do it, I'd certainly do it for my own satisfaction. Hopefully there is someone out there who CAN successfully take on the challange.
The problem is that often Apple won't let you have the hooks into the System and if you do spend an enormous amount of time trying to get around Apple's efforts there is little in it for the developer.
Apple may not let the developer post their app or hack in the App Store and very likely will change something soon that makes you have to start all over again or give up.

Nov 29, 2013 6:38 AM in response to Rob Gendreauby Robert Stengel,. "With all due respect, a few colors isn't a good way to organize files for real work. That's why it hardly ever got used." This comment is amusing on two counts. The first is a matter of opinion. The second depends on who you are, You may not use color to organize, but I use color all the time and find the labels helpful. .
. "The other kinds of metadata" that you mention are all textual. They can get busy real fast, and they force you to read rather than to respond to a graphic input. It's a different modality for information transfer.
. One shouldn't have to buy the $40 Pathfinder program just to get colored labels, and the side effects of adapting to a non-standard finder defeat the purpose.
. Apple provides lots of alternatives for displaying the contents of folders on the menu bar. Adding a simple "Dots to Labels" button should be no big deal.

Nov 29, 2013 1:37 PM in response to petermac87by Robert Stengel,. If we are not amused, then perhaps we take ourselves too seriously. If we didn't find this interchange amusing, then none of us would be engaged in it.
. As Apple hosts this site, they can hear it. Whether or not they respond is another issue,

Nov 29, 2013 2:24 PM in response to Robert Stengelby Rob Gendreau,Robert, I didn't realize Path Finder was now $40, but frankly it's worth it. Having a more customizable interface to find stuff is much better than the aging POS that is the Finder. Its last big changes actually occurred before Mac even had color monitors. Apple hasn't put any energy into it, and it shows.
Apple isn't into customizable anything anymore. Not hardware, not interface, not software, not utilities. Didn't used to be that way, but it's clearly a trend. They do not want you, the (mis)user, uglying up their interface. That's their job (remember the recent naugahyde Contacts?). There were once many utilities to change icons, fonts, colors, etc in the Finder and the Mac interface in general; it's no coincidence they're gone.
You're trying to throw a sledgehammer at the screen; it's not gonna work anymore. They won.

I had no idea that you have made yourself Moderator of this Support Function. Every other email I get is from you as if you are running this support forum. Or, are you just boared and need attention? I, for one, see no added info you give but repeating things you have said before. So please stand down and let the support forum operate as it was intended and not hijack the discussion as you have repeatedly. If not, I will let Apple know of your continual default ownership of the forumn.
