Q: I hate the new tags in Mavericks, need coloured folders!!

Is there a way to return the colour folders when using the new tags like the old behavior of labels? These new circle thingees are too small and barely noticable.

I had no idea that you have made yourself Moderator of this Support Function.  Every other email I get is from you as if you are running this support forum. Or, are you just boared and need attention?  I, for one, see no added info you give but repeating things you have said before.  So please stand down and let the support forum operate as it was intended and not hijack the discussion as you have repeatedly.  If not, I will let Apple know of your continual default ownership of the forumn.

I echo all the other comments about the colour dot system being a total let down. I'm so well organised through my colour-co-ordinated filing system and the dots just don't make visual sense when scanning for a file. I've just downloaded a free trial of Path Finder, which will expire in 30 days and then i'll have to pay - which seems grossly unfair since Apple shouldn't have taken it away in the first place.

Don't they know "If it aint broke don't fix it" rule?

Also, it seems like you have to use Path Finder instead of Finder! Total pain!

Really hope Apple hear our cries!

It would actually be nice if the OP could post that Apple feedback link in the first post of this thread.

??????? The OP was asking the original question and seeking assistance. Do you have any insight into how these, or any other Troubleshooting forums actually work? I would suggest starting your own thread. Make sure that you put in any information that someone who jumps into this thread may want in six weeks time though. Does that sound logical?

Is really a silly statement,as shown. If you take offense to that, then you really should not tread jump  and should start your own topic.

    Obviously, the author of

Five complaints Ars readers have about OS X Mavericks had issues that were more important to HIM (or her). Apprently there are a number of changes that have various negative effects for different people. That doesn't mean that the loss of Labels any less important as the others.

For some. Not for others. A few users are complaining about different changes. The same as when every other OSX has been released. If all were taken into account, we would still be in the 1980's. I would like to see Appleworks reintroduced. But I am realistic and have worked for years without it.

So a lot have complaints but whether Apple bend to a minority, we will see in the future.

Has anyone noticed this labels quirk:

Labels appear the OLD WAY, in InDesign CS5 dialogues. Save, export, etc., show the labels as a coloured bar behind the text, not as a stupid pointless dot. What does this mean? Seeing the labels the old way was such a sudden comfort to see all my 'working files' labeled again with a clearly visible yellow bar. sigh...

It's not just the labels, I'm finding Mavericks has many issues in performance and design...

Apple rarely respond to feedback. Just hope that there are enough of the many, many millions of users (most who never post here) that give feedback also that may make them rethink their decision.

Does anyone (that actually is knowledgeable, not trolling) know if there's a way to quickly change a color tag from one color to another, say with a modifer key?

For example: the way our workflow is, we color-code files according to their progress as edits and changes are made to them. So files are constantly shifting color labels so at a glance it's easy to spot at what stage they are. There is/was no better way to do this process than color labels.

This process is of course a nightmare on the machines upgraded to Mavericks without Pathfinder installed. The biggest annoyance I've found is that when you need to change a tag, the default behavior is to simply add a new tag over top of the old. So you have to delete the old tag. So now color-coding files is a two step process. When it's thousands of film frame files, that's a heck of an extra burden.

Does anyone know, is there a way to have this return to a one-click process? IE: hold down _ while tagging a new color and CHANGE the color to that, not just add an additional tag and have to remove the old one? (Or better yet, an option to change this behavior system-wide?)

I've tried every key combo I could think of, and searched the web for any insight on this, but come up empty. It seems like just another thing someone didn't actually think through when making this change and how it would actually effect real world usage for people.

Of course I'd be happy to be wrong and that there's just a simple setting or modifier I've overlooked.

Read the story (or just the headline) as it's complaints from Ars readers, "obviously"

("We asked for your complaints about OS X 10.9, and you all certainly delivered.")
