I agree...no one is forcing me to upgrade....I did but reverted to a more stable and functional OSX, Mountain Lion.
I'm on Mavericks, but I have to say that the most stable OS X was Snow Leopard.

Clearly that is true, bur unlike 'broken' you can't fix that which does not exist.
But you can send feedback to Apple and let them know your wants. Here

Tags suck at the functionality achieved so elegantly by coloured labels at folder and file level.
..........Big mistake here with this Apple!!
No, Tags aren't a "mistake." They offer a more powerful system.
Also, to the idea of ML being a "more stable and functional OS X" I couldn't disagree more strongly. ML was, quite honestly, the worst version of OS X I've used since 10.1 (well, I played around a bit with 10.0, which was a total fiasco!). My Macbook Pro shipped with ML, and I can't express how glad I am to be rid of it. Other than Quicklook not being able to preview MIDI files (a bizarre omission), and a few incompatible software glitches (which will be fixed in time), I can't think of any reason I'd want to revert back to ML.

You have Mountain Lion back, therefore it should not now be an issue for you.

I disagree (it's a matter of taste but) colored folders looked like a slightly scruffy traveling show was in town, in no way elegant, just a sideshow, and of very limited functionality.

Dec 30, 2013 11:04 PM in response to Csound1by Grrregerrr,I'm staying with Mavericks because Apple may eventually return the powerfully eye-grabbing colored lines plus tags, or, a 3rd party will produce not only the solution, but possibly an enhanced, catchier coloring system. I don't have the intestinal fortutude to go back to ML after almost 2 months for fear I'll mess something up.

Good Luck, you may need it.

Dec 31, 2013 8:44 AM in response to wheetabixby Doug-H1955,Each version of OSXhad ther plusses and minuses. Fror me, ML was the most stable and useful. Doesn't make it the best version (except for me).
Others have other experiences with it. That doesn't mean it was the worst.

Dec 31, 2013 8:56 AM in response to wheetabixby Doug-H1955,Tags may well be powerful for those who can successfully take advantage of the unique abilities they provide. However, they can in no way replace the power and unique abilities that Colored Labels provided for those who used them.
There is no reason the Apple can't provide both Tags and Lables, providing Mavericks well tools for everyone.

Dec 31, 2013 9:45 AM in response to Csound1by Doug-H1955,You can have your Tags. More power to you. However, that doesn't mean that Labels couldn't have been kept TOO. They both have their purpose and need. Those who need either should be able to keep them.

Dec 31, 2013 9:54 AM in response to Csound1by Doug-H1955,"It was not 'broken'
It was removed, big difference."
It really depends on how Apple derrived Tags. If they took Labels and modified it's code to become Tags, then they "broke" lables.
However, if they just removed Lablels code and replaced it with Tags code, then it was just removed. If it WAS just removed, then there is the possibility of having it returned. But if they "broke" the labels code, then they would have to start from scratech to replace Lables.

Dec 31, 2013 9:56 AM in response to Doug-H1955by Csound1,I use what is available, colored folders (other than blue) are not, not from Apple anyhow.
What could have been done is not relevant, only what actually was done counts.
Send feedback to Apple, maybe you can change their minds bit in the meantime I still have work to do, and tags help.

Dec 31, 2013 9:59 AM in response to wheetabixby Doug-H1955,Lables don't have to have the functionality of Tags. They should each have their own purpose and place. Those who need and want the use of Tags should be able to take advantage of them.
However, those who NEED and want Lables should be able to take advantage of them too.
