Q: I hate the new tags in Mavericks, need coloured folders!!

Is there a way to return the colour folders when using the new tags like the old behavior of labels? These new circle thingees are too small and barely noticable.

I couldn't agree more, this new labeling system is TERRIBLE (UPPERCASE).... BRING BACK COLORED labeling and folders that is visually noticeable. I am a decade long user of MAC OSX and relied heavily on the colored labeling system prior to maverick to keep track of file status and new and older versions of files... The little round dots are WORTHLESS, you cannot see them, they do no make labeling files and using metadata easy. I pray to the MAC GODS, they notice this thread and instantly change it back to modify it. HORRIBLE design choice... Please fix it or return to the previous system and let us pick our OWN COLORS (UPPERCASE intended!).... Thank you.

Yes, Tony, you're right. I've been following this thread since the beginning. What I meant to say is, "... hoping a 3rd party would come out with something truly wonderful and groundbreaking." I'm not at all impressed with Pathfinder, etc.

In a perfect world, where anything is possible, I would have:

Flashing or enlarged folders (or, labels) for urgent/current and unfinished jobs, to-be-invoiced or unresolved issues—not to preclude all other color-coded indicators I systematically use (plus, more colors or even shapes?). Even the prior (wonderful) colored labels would seem like an old DOS computer from the '70s in campared to graphically "grabbing" animated indicators; after all, computers are capable of so much. Subtle dots are diminutive; a direction I'd hoped things would head. But, to be clear, I do appreciate the vision; it shows that Apple is, after all, thinking along the same lines as all who've joined this thread. And, yes, I've respectfully written Apple concerning all this.

Returning to the previous system is your job. Please do not use upper case. It is considered as shouting in Forums and thus is seen as quite rude and will draw nothing but disdain to your post. As mentioned, tell Apple, and try not to yell.

Ugh!  Reminds me of DOS Ansi blinking colors

Reminers or Calendar should be used for the items you mention.

I cannot convey to you how upset I am with the new folder/file system in Mavericks. I have wasted hours trying to see how I can use the tags as a workaround for the loss of colored folder labels. Why I am being forced to abandon a perfectly functional system in which I have hundreds of hours invested? This change was material enough that a warning should have been provided before the so-called improvement was offered.

I agree, but the issues with Mavericks are much greater thatn Tags.  (Generally, it seems to be a very T R A S H Y release -- too many significant things don't work or do so at a glacial pace.)

How difficult is it to revert?

Yes but this thread is about the loss of labels. Start your own thread about your other issues.

I am sure that you will have made a backup before you removed your operating system and replaced it with another.

    Restore it.

I've been reading complaint after complaint regarding the new TINY color dots for organizing files.  I HATE THEM!

I'm 60 years old and recently purchased my 32nd MAC ( the last two were 12-cores with 64 gigs of RAM).  Now, after years of organizing my files by color so it is easy for my eyes to see, you change it to minuscule dots which cannot even be put in FRONT of the file folders.  Rather they are clear across the finder page.

Honestly, what young wants-to-make-his-mark designer comes up with such an asinine improvement.  WHY take away a feature and replace it with a punishment for the year of work your loyal customers  have done to assure they will be able to EASILY find things when they need to.

I'm an audio engineer and your choice to be stylish is wasting hours of my time.

So given that files can have multiple tags, each with its own color, how SHOULD Apple handle the case where there are 3 colored tags on the same file?

And what's wrong with using the sidebar labels for tags, and just selecting the one that shows files tagged as you want?

The 'dot' is not for organization, it's what the tag is named.  The ability to multi-tag files and search on the tag criteria is what Tags is for, not color dots.  The dot's is to be backward compatible with Labels.

Go back to colored folders. I did not like it when the operating system didn't have anything. I did not like it when it highlighted the whole file name. I only like that when the folder was highlighted with the color.

This is a prime example of change to change something not not to improve the product great deal..

Then again I much prefer the new method, not everyone prefers the same methodology.
