Jan 4, 2014 9:24 AM in response to Csound1by StitcherGA,But wouldn't it be ideal if we could have both?
Like so many people in this thread, I depended on the colored folders for quick recognition and I miss them.

Jan 4, 2014 9:39 AM in response to StitcherGAby Csound1,Yes, both would be nice (for those that want it) but it's not that way so send feedback to Apple. If enough do that who knows, it may come back.

Jan 4, 2014 11:07 AM in response to William Lloydby Csound1,"So given that files can have multiple tags, each with its own color, how SHOULD Apple handle the case where there are 3 colored tags on the same file?"
Stripes perhaps?

Jan 4, 2014 2:26 PM in response to Csound1by ianska,Or like this:
The funtionality is there as it's how tags look when you single click a file to select it. Labels and tags really should be 2 seperate things as they perform different tasks. Ideal solution for me would be as per the example as well as having a preference to tag items (for searching purposes) and be able to turn of the dots.

Jan 4, 2014 2:46 PM in response to ianskaby Csound1,That's not what I asked.
Please show me one file with multiple color coded categories using your method.

Jan 4, 2014 2:54 PM in response to Csound1by ianska,Thats why I said "or".
It would be pretty hard to read a line with multiple coloured stripes behind it.

Jan 4, 2014 2:56 PM in response to ianskaby Csound1,That's why it is no use to me, tags work for multiple categories.

Jan 4, 2014 3:59 PM in response to Grrregerrrby Wizard_Magic_Spell,Like Grrregerrr,I've been following/contributing to this thread since day 1. I think Apple would like us all to go away. But we have a genuine grievance. The coloured dots are not just awful, they're evil.

No, Apple would not have noticed you here. But they will be taking notice of those who have been providing feedback through the proper, repeated link. Hopefully there are enough doing that to make them rethink the removal of coloured labels. Only time will tell.
Cheers

Jan 4, 2014 4:11 PM in response to Csound1by ianska,They work for multiple categories but not for highlighting. I don't think anyone is suggesting taking tags away just to leave the functionality of labels that was highlighting.
Anyway, I'm sure you can send your stripes idea to Apple.com/Feedback

Jan 4, 2014 7:37 PM in response to Csound1by auapplemac,In addition, I want a way to put a check (or some noticible symbol next to an email I need to work on and then another type of mark to show it's completed. I hate the flags because they're too small and the design is too intricate to determine what the actual color is.
Entrouage (2008) has this capability.
I have taged my groups in Mail to have the text in a specific color for easy recognition, but it doesn't always work with all those in the Group.

Jan 4, 2014 8:25 PM in response to auapplemacby Grrregerrr, auapplemac, iansca and many others, we're on the same wavelength. It's not really surprising when you consider how professionals think and work. So, the common theme throughout this entire thread is:
User controllability with visually-grabbing Finder graphics. Tags was this valient attempt at that, but, ironically, fails. Had Apple asked in-the-field professionals, this would've become apparent. The inherently good qualities of Tags, however, can augment what we had, but eliminating what we'd had for years is unsettling, and we're wondering if this is the way it will always be, or if the Apple code writers will respond to Apple.com/feedback contributions.
The purpose of this thread is of a cathartic nature, and, I must mention at this point, it helped me immensely to read the common wailing from all of you! When the revelation of what no longer existed, I wondered, "Is it just me who values visually-supportive graphics for filing?!"
