Q: I hate the new tags in Mavericks, need coloured folders!!

Is there a way to return the colour folders when using the new tags like the old behavior of labels? These new circle thingees are too small and barely noticable.

As I said you can tell zip.

Because you never look and have no idea what you are looking at.

If you want to use Save As, you can set cmd-shift-s to the shortcut for Save As…

Go to Keyboard System Prefs, Shortcuts, Applications, and add one for All Applications. Type Save As… for the Menu title and cmd-shift-s for the shortcut.

Actually a keyboard command already exists: command shift option s

command shift s is already being used by Duplicate

That is not the issue, changing the shortcut makes your Mac behave differently from all other Macs.

The point raised was that users are confused by Apple removing Save As… from the File menu.

After howls of protest, Apple reinstated it but hid it.

The 98% of users on this planet who are used to seeing Save As… in their File menu, couldn't find it anymore.

Strange that my copy works and yours doesn't, other than you I wonder what the difference is between your Mac and mine?

Sorry. I thought you wanted to have Save As showing. I'll try to remember not to help you anymore.

If you set it as I suggested, Duplicate will no longer use that shortcut and Save As… will appear in your menu.

    Pete,

You are so right.  They removed Save As and put in Duplicate (maybe it was already there - but what goodis it)

Looks like they forgot the top two rules of marketing.

Rule 1 "The Customer is Always Right"

    Rule 2 "See Rule 1.

It has nothing to do with the Mac.

If you really would like to find out, I'd start looking for a hacksie on your system.

We can take that my clean install and that at the Apple Store are the factory settings.

I have already looked in System Preferences and can locate nothing that directly sets the default.

There are the Terminal/Keyboard Shortcut methods:

Perhaps you did it long ago and can't remember?

I never said that I did, or asked for help. You assumed both.

Don't take that as a snub though, I was just correcting the assumptions.

No haxies, not on any of 5 Macs that behave exactly the same.

Oh, and Pages 5 did not exist 'long ago'

You provided three concrete reasons why YOU found Tags umore usefull than Labels. There are obviously others who can take advantage of Tags just as you have.

However, there are others who have provided concrete reasons why they found labels more usefull than Tags. Labels are not limited to "visual appeal". It all depends on how the Tags and Labels are used as to how valuable they can be. Personally, I agree with PeterBreis0807 in that I find Labels a LOT more compelling than Tags.

But Pages '09 on Lion and Mountain Lion did.

The older versions of Pages '09 (eg v4.05) do still show Save As… in the File Menu, even in Mavericks.

Perhaps that is what you are opening?

I think the change came after Pages '09 v4.1 that it followed the System default.

Save As…was completely removed in Lion, and from then on was a System method, not an app method.

The current Save As… implementation, using the option key to reveal it, was introduced in Mountain Lion.

Unfortunately colored labels are gone so you will either have to find a substitute, or go without them.

Or they could mysteriously reappear if you hold down some unnamed modifier key…

Who knows? This is Apple. Never the same deckchairs on the deck twice.
