Jan 21, 2014 5:59 PM in response to Csound1by Doug-H1955,I have identical Mac Pros at home and at work, both running the same OS. But for some reason, some applications work differently on each machine. I wish I knew what the difference was so I could make them both work the same. But until I do, I just have to deal with the fact that I have to take extra steps on one machine that I don't on the other.

Well I can't look for you and can't get you to look.
Take a walk to your nearest Apple Store and see what a standard setup looks like.
Then assume I got there first and changed all their Macs!
The only logical explanation for anything, you simply don't want to hear.

Jan 21, 2014 6:04 PM in response to Csound1by Peohguy,I tried it, but couldn't get it to work.
I went to System Preferences, Clicked Keyboard, then clicked Shortcuts tab, clicked on App Shortcuts at bottom of left list, then clicked All Applications in right window, then clicked the + below bottom of right window, Then clicked on Menu Title in pop up and typed in Save As in the window, then clicked on Keyboard Shortcut and hit the command key then the shift key then the s key and then clicked on Add and tried it with a Pages file and wound up making a duplicate copy.
My description may be somewhat labored and pedantic but I wanted you to see the exact sequence that I went through without any assuming shortcuts in jargon.
What say you?
Best regards,

Jan 21, 2014 6:06 PM in response to PeterBreis0807by Csound1,All my installs are right out of the box, no modifiers. And I have an office with 30 plus Macs to serve comparison duties, they all run Pages and Numbers 5, they all show Save As, and they are all (at last) running Mavericks.
When you can offer a logical explanation I will be happy to listen, but I am not holding my breath for it.

Jan 21, 2014 6:07 PM in response to Peohguyby PeterBreis0807,Apple blocks off changes to certain keyboard changes.
They may have tightened this up in Mavericks.
The TÚAW article was written for Mountain Lion.
Apple's greatest failure lately is the lack of information, and feedback when they have changed something.
It used to be their shining crown. Good UI and good feedback. They seem to think that is so Nineties now.

Both my wife and I have the same brand of smart? phones and they both have slightly different menus when it comes to deleting things.
Really getting off the mark of TAGS and such, but just replying. I am learning as I read all of the posts even if they are side issues, keep em coming.

Jan 21, 2014 6:17 PM in response to Csound1by PeterBreis0807,Same old, same old Csound1.
Won't look, won't think through anything. How were the Macs setup? If your IT used Apple's tools they'd be all the same.
Do you want me to post a screen shot from the Apple Store?
I might be there in the next few days.
Or will you assume, because it would bring down all your Fondly Held Beliefs [FHBs], that I had Photoshoped those as well?
…as well as faking the TÚAW article.

Jan 21, 2014 6:15 PM in response to PeterBreis0807by Csound1,Peter, please post whatever you like, I have posted what I see on every Mac I have access to. (Including the Office machines, mine and a client or two that's 37 all told)
The pictures tell the story.
Save As appears on the menu of up to date Apple apps on Mavericks.

Jan 21, 2014 6:19 PM in response to PeterBreis0807by Peohguy,Yeah,
Actually a keyboard command already exists: command shift option s
really works good if you have great manual dexterity with your fingers. At least now I know what those crazy symbols meant when I went to the help menu and it showed the keyboard shortcuts for Save As in the drop down menu some Greek letter that looks like 2/3rds of an X and an Up Arrow that I incorrectly identified as a scrolling up arrow. But now I know. Little by little I'm learning what Apple should explain. I think all of you power users have spoiled the Apple Cartel, they are relying on you to explain their machine, much the same way that Turbo Tax relies on the community of users to explain tax law to the other users.

Of the setup on those Macs.
I'm curious what has been done. It will be a solution for those who would like the menu permanently changed.
Not much help to newbies who would struggle with Terminal or whatever, and never would know there was a way of changing it back.

Jan 21, 2014 6:21 PM in response to PeterBreis0807by Csound1,I will be quite happy to allow you a quick remote session to my MBP, or iMac so that you can start Pages for yourself as you seem to be unable to accept the pictures I post.
Get a copy of TeamViewer, we can use the WC to araange access.

Jan 21, 2014 6:24 PM in response to PeterBreis0807by Csound1,As I said before, nothing has been modified, or done as you put it, other than downloading the apps from the App Store followed by a standard install. I don't have the time to fiddle about.
