Feb 6, 2014 12:55 AM in response to Madashelluphereby Silly Old Codger,Has anyone tried folderol as available on the App Store?
I presume it only adds colour to the folders and not to the actual file names as well?

Feb 6, 2014 4:02 AM in response to Silly Old Codgerby Pontotoc Peg,Upgraded to Mavericks last October. After three months of slow performance and a Safari that froze my entire system, even after several hopeful fixes, and wanting "my" color labels, I reinstalled my Mac from scratch. I'm running Mountain Lion again & have my labels and a stable system again.
The re-install wasn't easy or fast, but everything seems to be working flawlessly now.
My guess is I'll need Mavericks at some future date. I don't care for laptops, but maybe I'll have to have one for the newer OSs as they come along. But until Mavericks has color labels and / or the kinks are worked out, I'm sticking to ML with my iMac. It has plenty of RAM and storage and right processor to ensure Mavericks worked well; but it never did.
I was about to try Pathfinder when Safari froze the system again. That made the decision for me.
I've appreciated this discussion--especially knowing I wasn't alone wanting the simple, yet sophisticated tool of color labels.

Feb 6, 2014 1:03 PM in response to Pontotoc Pegby Grrregerrr,Pontotoc Peg, you and Doug-H1955 are inspirations for me. Doug on this thread that I'm aware of who blazed the trail toward the return to ML.
Well, I received the new HD that I'll be dedicating to ML and migrating all my files. I do this with trepidation at Doug's mention of Permissions issue hassles, and kept a screen capture of all his specific suggestions. I know computers fairly well, but there are certain nagging annoyances which elude me that I'm sure a more techie person would easily resolve... and if I researched could Google the answers to (IF, in most cases, I knew how to phrase the questions!).
Here's to the rest of the day delving into an uncomfortable pursuit (I'm squirming, to be honest), but SO looking forward to the return of years invested in label identifcation and removal of slowdowns noticed immediately after "upgrading" to Mavericks!

Feb 6, 2014 1:27 PM in response to Macintosh4579by petermac87,With what?
Oh sorry you were answering Madashelluphere and disagreeing with their post that read
Is there a way to return the colour folders when using the new tags like the old behavior of labels? These new circle thingees are too small and barely noticable.
So you like the new tags. That is good. Enjoy.

Feb 6, 2014 3:39 PM in response to Madashelluphereby suckaboo,For folks like me, who are using an alternative to finder (such as Pathfinder, TotalFinder, or Forklift), I thought you might like this Finder-ish application icon.
I'm weird about this stuff, and I try as hard as possible to pretend I'm not using work arounds to replicate depricated functionality I sorely miss. So I'm using this as my Forklift icon. It's kinda weird having 2 similar icons right next to each other in the dock and in the app switcher, but oh well...
Just google how to change an application icon. It's pretty straightforward.

Have found nothing wrong with PF..

I have only been trying it out a few times. So far it has been great. Files (labels) and folders can be colored. The only thing so far that doesn't come up to par with finder is "Spotlight" Finder can find anything with Spotlight. PF's search window acts only as a filter and it would not find pictures in my files that Finder could. But since I can switch back and forth between them it doesn't pose a major problem.

Feb 8, 2014 4:38 AM in response to Peohguyby Gat0r,Peohguy, yes you can still use spotlight with Path Finder. I keep them both running but use PF. Spotlight still works just fine. There are steps outlined how to remove Finder from the dock but you can always pull it up using the "Show in Finder" link at the top of the Spotlight search window.
