Maverick REALLY s u c k s. I am so disappointed I upgraded.
Mac OS hasn‘t worked since Snow Leopard.
Not being about to “Open in New Windows” destroys the way I work.
I am so sick of my computer crashing. I’ve been a Mac user for over 20 years. I don’t want to instead get a PC but I may have to in order to work in MS Word.

Jun 20, 2014 5:17 AM in response to duboisbby joelengl,Hi,
----------------------------------------------------------------------
---> To Always open folders in a new window in Maverick,
simply go to System Preferences > KeyBoard > Tab KeyBoard
and create a New ShortCut for the Finder Application,
the Menu Title will be «Open in New Window»,
and assign a shortcut such as ctrl O!!!
---> cmd down should work (I didn't test it)
but I don't like to conflict with built in shortcut on my Mac
and that is why I always use ctrl.
---> It will work only if the Side Bar is Open
and even if your are in Column View
(which is the easiest View Type to navigate)
and restore your opened window state such as
Side Bar Hidden + View as Icon or View as List!!!
---> In the case that the Side Bar is hidden the cmd down
do it well in Icon View and in List View but not in column view!!!
---> I hope that THIS will help!!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sincerely yours, Joel.

Sep 4, 2014 9:52 AM in response to Stephen Kiserby dmschiff,Simplest way in OS 10.9 - push the command key while double-clicking on the folder that you want to open in a separate window.

Sep 4, 2014 10:29 AM in response to dmschiffby nealt2,TheLostFinderNewWindow bundle works great. It restores the original behavior of opening a new finder window. Works in Maverick and Yosemite beta 2.Must install easy simbl. Both are free. You may have to run Killall Finder in terminal once to get it to work.

Oct 18, 2014 2:44 AM in response to Helgasonby aamatin,Helgason: Thank you so much for this solution. I have been using it since March. But I just upgraded to Yosemite. And as you have noted on your website, it breaks the functionality of typing Command-Shift-A to go to Applications and such. Now that Yosemite has officially been released, are you going to create an update?
Also, an update that returns the green button to being maximize instead of full screen (without having to hold down Option) would also be welcome!

Sep 29, 2016 4:20 AM in response to Hollandaby Jakehotep,Can't believe that works! Thanks! I was getting frantic. If I clicked on an alias, and then Command-R to "Reveal in Finder" because I want to edit the Icons on both things at once, it would always Reveal the original in the same folder. Shutting down the sidebar and toolbar worked for me. (Since I find them intrusive most of the time, this was no big sacrifice for me.) Not a perfect solution, but certainly good enough for me.
