Sharing on iCloud as read only ?

As a teacher I've used Google Drive as a way of sharing files for years. The fact that a folder on google drive can be shared in such a way that the files are read-only, and can't be modified by the students, makes this an invaluable tool.

I would love to be able to share my keynote slides with iCloud, but the person who views the document is able to edit it.

Can this please be changed in the future, a toggle switch to make the document 'read only'.

I agree with your request. I too am a teacher and use GoogleDocs throughout my courses. The power of iCloud/iWorks is clear but with out the "read only sharing" the use of this feature is very limited. An embed code for posting inside Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard would also be great!

Are the items we post here passed onto Apple? Is there another place to suggest additional features?

Well what you can do is in the desctop version "export to html" and then share a link to the html

or the html itself in google drive.

But of course ths is not the same as sharing inside iCloud.

Which is also a feature I would love to have!

I send around a lot of presentations by E-Mail as PDFs.

To provide just a link to one that even has transitions and maybe sound is way better.

Just found this discussion. The lack of read-only settings for shared iCloud documents somehow amuses me...

It makes me wonder whether the person responsible for iCloud development has ever used this feature in theirs work. Honestly, sharing the document and asking "please, don't edit it" all the time makes me feel a little non-professional.

Today every time I want to send a file to windows user I must convert it to Excel or so and do it every time I make a change. If only could I just send a link and the receiver would be able to see the actual version anytime they click the link but couldn't change the document itself.

Sent feedback to Apple. Have doubts they ever read them.
