There is a workaround. Re-open the screen recording file in Quicktime and then export it again. Once you import the newly exported file into iMovie, the coloring should work well. Or at least it worked for me and I was having the exact same issue.
Same thing is happening to me , Dotgarb I tryed that and doesn't work 😟

According to another poster, this is iMovie's way of telling you your frame rate is inadequate. You can:
1) Ignore the "red" warning, edit the file, and allow the project to be corrected during final export,
2) Correct the frame rate by re-compressing the file as mentioned above,
3) Use a faster machine or capture a smaller area so the platform can capture the video with a higher frame rate,
4) Change the frame rate reference (i.e. tell the file to play the frames faster), or
5) Use a commercial screen capture app that is more efficient/allows you to capture at a user specified data rate which is iMovie acceptable.
Hello.
I have used iMovie to upload Quicktime movies, however, that was in Mountain Lion. Could this be a bug from OS Mavericks?
Also, how do you change the frame rate?
Please reply ASAP.

Already answered in your own topic post.
Hello.
The best way how to get rid of this red stuff is to downgrade iMovie.
The way how to downgrade iMovie is to go on applications and look for, "iMovie 9.0.9." Open that and you will see the old iMovie. Click on that and you are taken to the old iMovie application.
Import your file there and it will work.
This work around should fix it. You need to change the frame rate.
I had the same issue. In my case, once I changed the frame rate from 24 to 30 it resolved the issue.
Good luck.
