OsX Mavericks and Time Capsule Drive not connecting

Hi,

I upgraded to Mavericks today and I am now trying to access my 2 TB Time Capsule Hard Drive. I get an error that says: There was a Problem connecting to "XXXX Time Capsule" Server. I also use the Time Capsule for my wireless network, which is working fine. When I go into the AirPort Utility and try to see the Time Capsule info it constantly asks me to put in my password and once I do nothing happens, but the password request appears again in a few minutes. Both my iPhoto and iTunes libraries are stored on my Time Capsule as well as my Time Machine Backups. It has not been able to perform backups either, since it cannot connect to the disk. I am running a MacBook Pro 2010.

Has anyone else had this problem thus far? Is there a workaround for this or an update I should do?

Thanks!!

Howdy seanay89,

It sounds like you are unable to make a Time Machine backup becuse the disk is not connecting correctly. I want to recommend these links from the article named:

Time Machine: Troubleshooting backup issues

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3275

Red "i" message: "The backup volume could not be mounted" or "The backup volume could not be found." appears when using network volume or Time Capsule

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I don't thing it's Time machine backup issues. You may be using time capsule just as a remote storage, which

I believe what seanay89 and I am doing. After update maveriks I constantly run into issue of inability to connect

to that remote storage. Restarting machine solves it until I go to work, when I'm back home I can't connect to

my disk again :'(

Hello,

I have figured out the problem and it seems to be working fine now, although at times it can be slow. If it has troulble connecting, I go to "Go" and then Connect to Server and select the time capsule name, input the password and it connects fine after that.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions!!

I thought I had solved this issue, but it seems that it has returned.

gozala is right. While I am using Time Capsule for my backups, I am also using it as remote storage where I have my iTunes and iPhoto folders stored. I tried restarting my system, but it did not work. If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.

Thank you!

I am in exactly the same position: I am running MBP mid 2010 and updated to Mavericks recently. I have a 1TB TC to which was previously connected a 500GB external drive which my wife used to backup her MBAir. Usual running out of space problem - so went yesterday to Apple store and bought a 2TB Lacie external. Now having formatted to mac journal extended with 2 partitions (1 for Time machine backup, the other for general files- video/photos etc), I can often see the drive; even start a time machine backup before losing connectivity and am unable to reach it. I power down TC and restart it I can find the drive though is variable whether I can interrogate the contents - sometimes it is listed as a sharepoint connection but I can't see anymore than that.... I know the drive works as when directly connected to either my MBP or her Air I can read/write files fine... SOOO frustrating!

Thinking of throwing money at the problem and buying a new 3TB TC, but really that would be playing into Apple's hands/pocket.. and I thought they were better than that!

Yup, just to bump, I have this exact issue as well - 2010-or-so MBP with Mavericks, unable to connect to TC while the wireless network connection going through it works just fine.

I did not see the problem immediately upon installing Mavericks, though, it just started today (apr. 15th) - I upgraded a few months ago and have had other problems but not this one.

Turning Wi-Fi off and on does not help, neither does using "Go", and even the "trying to access TC via Airport Utility and getting repeatedly asked for the password while nothing happens" situation is replicated on my system.

Fix, please, Apple - and remember, we went to these products to not have to switch our computers off and on again all the time to make them go...

I also had problems with Time Capsule after installing Mavericks 10.9.3. I connected the computer with the Time Capsule using a (Ethernet)-cable. Then Mavericks installed automaticly a new firmware on the Time Capsule.

After the installation, the Time Capsule restartet automaticly, and i had my Wi-fi again. Even after disconnecting the cable. Hope, this helps

Well first off the Time Capsule was designed for Time Machine back ups only. I've called Apple with this configuration and it was unsupported lol.

Using the TC disk for storage for things like music and movies, when a computer wants to access the info from the TC, the TC disk will mount to that computer.

When the TC disk is mounted to a computer it will no longer run Time Machine back ups because the disk is mounted else where.

When you restart the Time Capsule, it unmounts from the computer that mounted it.

You should probably use a wired external hard drive.
