Q: Can't install Windows 8 x64 on late 2013 MBP with1TB SSD

The Problem with the Bootmanager is also fixed.I use "reFit" bootmanager direct installed on the OS X.

I even made it more simple: after making empty space (instead of the bootcamp partition) I instaled the win 8 inside of it withOUT creating new partion or formating; I just hope it won't make any future problems...
Strange how the sys instaled without defining a new partition, but the issue SOLVED (after 30 h. attempts...)

This worked for me but with  additional twists.

• I had 21" iMAC, OS X 10.9.1 (13B42), external Windows 8.1 dvd and a USB.
• Used disk utility to create blank partition for bootcamp. It needed to be exFAT since NTFS gave errors during partition.
• Creating ISO + drivers on USB did not work since Windows install did not recongnize USB as bootable drive but did recognize optical drive and installed
• Windows install formatted the partition to NTFS
• Opened the USB that had combined ISO+drivers, went to driver folder and used setup to load drivers
• Windows is up and running but haven't exercised it a lot yet
• When I rebooted back to iOS, it gave NTFS errors for bootcamp partition and it wouldn't show in finder. Read another thread and disabled NTFS in system preferences, went to disk utility and the partition had now appeared. Mounted it, re-enabled NTFS and the partition is showing up in finder

This was after spending hours of trial and error, poring through Apple documentation and reading other threads. 

If someone could clarify some of these points for me it would be greatly appreciated. My questions in red.

1. Use Bootcamp to create EFI-bootable USB drive with the Windows ISO file.

2. Uninstall any previous installations of Bootcamp, restoring the partition table to one big Apple partitition.

3. Use Disk Utility in OS X to create empty space of the size I want my Windows partitition to be.

4. Reboot the machine to the USB drive.

There are actually two ways to boot up into the USB drive, EFI and Windows. I assume to boot into the EFI one?

5. Using the Windows Advanced partition options, create a new partition in the empty space. Windows will also create a small (128 MB or so) partition alongside it.

After booting into the USB, where does one find 'Windows Advanced partion options'? And could you elaborate on how to do this?

6. Format the new partition using the Windows Advanced partition options.

7. Proceed with installation onto that NTFS partition as before.

I am assuming this will be obvious how to do this once the other is done?

8. Windows 8 installs!

9. After installation, run the setup.exe inside the Bootcamp folder on the USB drive. This will install all the necessary device drivers.

To reply to my own post above, I realize what the Windows Advanced partition options is. The reason I was having a problem finding that is mine never shows that link but just opens up into them by default.

Having said that, how do you "create a new partition in the empty space"?

And then I assume you format that just by clicking 'format' in the options.

To answer my own post again, I think I got all the above figured out. Only thing is after I delete the partition in the Windows installation, 'format' is not an active link to format that space, but from another post I see that it's not necessary. But I still get the error at the end:

"Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed."

Would getting an external DVD and trying it from the disk help? Seems I've read some say this can only be done with a USB.

Having the same Problem with my late 2013 trash can Mac Pro. The Bootcamp created partition on the internal SSD does NOT work with the BC-created Windows 8.1 USB flashdrive. Neither does the Disk Utility exFAT solution.

Also the Windows Setup does not install on a own created NTFS partition.

After several installation failures and dozens of reboots and repartitions, this is the solution which worked for me:

- Run Boot Camp assistant and create usual BC partition for win

- BC does want to restart. Boot into OSX and not from the win flashdrive.

- open disk utility, remove the BC created partition

- reboot, this time use the win flashdrive and continue to the drive selection screen

- select the "free space" partition (should be the last one)

- format it, then continue (note: other small windows partitions will be created during his step)

My solution did only work because I did NOT create an exFAT or ANY other partition in disk utility.

It only seemed to work after there was free space.

Also it did not work if I tried to delete or add a partition in the windows setup.

It did either throw an error message or it did nothing at all.

It is a shame that Apple releases Bootcamp with such major issues. This is - for me - not the first time I am having major problems with Bootcamp. Windows XP, Win 7 etc... on different machines with Bootcamp always were a pain in the ***.

My Mac Pro Late 2013(not MacBook) ,can't install windows 8 ,after I tried every method ,finally I use Option+Command+P+R to reset NVRAM ,and it's done. Hope my reply can help you.   A chinese man.

Option-Command-P-R on boot to reset PRAM and then I can install Win 8 fine just by following the standard bootcamp install process (can I have my night back Apple?)

Have been trying to install Windows 8 since last night on a new MacPro (cylinder) with a 1TB HDD.

I had all the error messages listed in multiple threads and tried at least a dozen processes to no avail...till Idid what Orphaned Gland suggested on page 1 of this thread.

Did everything in the order that he did even doing the booting in recovery mode despite the fact that my screen was not frozen.

It worked the first time !

We've managed to get working in this "Windows could not update the computer’s boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed". This could be solved by creating the partition manually instead of go through the BootCamp Assistant.

OOk I did it... Ditch boot camp and don't partition your disk in OS... Create the USB disk by copying the ISO image on to it. Reboot your mac and choose boot from USB stock. Let it start setting up windows, put in your license key and then choose advance setup options. Click on the only disk and then click extend then click next to install on the newly created partition... BOOM
