Q: Problems with Airplay to Apple TV after Maverick install

I have a mid-11 iMac that I have connected to a Apple TV 3 with ethernet (not wireless).  Up until I installed maverick yesterday all was working well with no streaming issues when watching TV from my iMac via Airplay to my Apple TV.  After the upgrade the streaming has been seriously downgraded with bad pixilation and hesitancy with the picture.  It is pretty much unwatchable now.  What has changed with Mavericks to cause such a downgrade in picture quality to the Apple TV?

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), Apple TV 3

Just took delivery on my new 13 in macbook pro retina w/8gb ram, 256 gb ss i5 haswell. have to say i am extremely disappointed with the airplay video quality to my atv3. Not good at all, unusable.  my ipad2 does a much better job.

if a fix is not forthcoming very soon, i will return the mbp for a refund.

I'am also having issues since the mavericks upgrade.  I have a late 2012 imac and since the upgrade to mavericks I cannot get the airplay icon at all.  Yet I can get airplay to my Apple TV (2) from my iphone 4 and my ipad 2 .  Any ideas?

Mirror the computer display, match desktop size to the ATV3 and not high res retina in my case. Boom, fixed it. (also upd ATV3 software to latest)

I have been doing exactly what you said to do all along, still to no avail.  Even turning off the firewall didn't help any.  This is a joke.  I can't mirror or extend without extreeeeme lag.  I even tried resetting the ATV.

Hi, I have now restored my Apple TV 2 and re installed mavericks and still the same .. I have lost the airplay icon from the top of my screen.  So I then removed all of my mcafee security software.  Still no icon.  If I try now from my ipad 2 I cannot see the airplay icon either. Even after a restart.  All of the devices are using the same id / account.  It must be something simple i'am missing ?

Have the same problem.  Upgraded to Mavericks and no longer have the airplay icon.  When I go into System Preferences/Displays the airplay area is greyed out.  Have upgraded my Apple TV3 to version 6.0.1 and reset it. Rebooted my Macbook Pro (mid 2012).  Rebooted my router and everything else I've found on the Apple forums and nothng works!  Hope Apple is addressing this issue seems that it has affected a lot of people and I want my Airplay back.

Hi I have the same problem after upgrading IOSX! Apple is appearing to be more like a Windows PC, where greed for fame and money is overtaking its founder vision!!!

If it does not work properly please do not launch new system!!!

I had to restore my entire harddrive with this upgrade, be satisfied with function downgrade of IMovies and on the top of this, Airplay is malfunctioning!!!

Not only I can't watch videos as before, but also I am unable to use VLC on airplay!!! As soon as I click airplay icon my screen goes black and only returns to normal with a restart... I am furious, apple is appering to become like HP, ever so lacking of user friendliness... (HP=Hewlet Packard not the brown sauce, but now it resembles both d;-))

Please grow out of it or people will grow out of you!!!

I have done all software updates, read millions of buletins and found that not even apple website for troubleshooting is working... Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring.

Perhaps the market needs a new Steve Jobs!!! Do you know anyone up for it?

So I have been using Apple TV3 in combination with my 2011 MBP, core i5 with 8GB ram. I always had flawless wireless streaming with 720p.

Since I upgraded to Mavericks, I enjoyed the fact that I could stream 1080p and use the Apple TV as external desktop, but it seems to be all jerky all the time.

I tried to switch back to airplay mirroring with 720p, but still found my stream to jerk continuously.

I will try resetting my Apple TV, but for now I am quite bummed that I can't watch movies properly now.. Please give us a solution :-)

So I had the same problem.  This what I did to fix it.  AirPlay is now working perfect for me.

The first thing I did was reset my router to factory defaults and re set it up.  I then went to my Apple TV 3 box and reset and reconfigured the network settings.  I now have the Airplay icon on all of my Apple products and it is working fine.  Hope you get it working!
