Q: Problems with Airplay to Apple TV after Maverick install

I have a mid-11 iMac that I have connected to a Apple TV 3 with ethernet (not wireless).  Up until I installed maverick yesterday all was working well with no streaming issues when watching TV from my iMac via Airplay to my Apple TV.  After the upgrade the streaming has been seriously downgraded with bad pixilation and hesitancy with the picture.  It is pretty much unwatchable now.  What has changed with Mavericks to cause such a downgrade in picture quality to the Apple TV?

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), Apple TV 3

    i bought an Apple TV 3 - i updated its software - I had a big lag.

I did the reset without looking on this forum... everything is ok after the reset!

SO, DO NOT UPDATE THE APPLE TV... OR IF YOU DID JUST RESET TO THE INITIAL SETTINGS

10.9.1 had temporarily fixed this problem for me. After a couple of weeks the lag and pixelation issues returned.

Updating to 10.9.2 has fixed it again. Don't know if it will last.

I have just updated to 10.9.2 and now am unable to select 'Mirror iMac' in Airplay, it defailts to extend worktop which means that I cannot see anything on my TV screen but have sound.

    All worked perfectly with 10.9.1.

Can I roll back to 10.9.1 or is there a way to get the 'Mirror iMac' to work?

I have the exact same problem.  It defaults to Extend Desktop and the other Mirror selections are greyed out, hence can't select them.

Apple have taken some data from me to (hopefully) help solve this problem.  In the mean time  I have rolled back with Time Machine to restore my iMac to 10.9.1.

I'm encountering this issue as well. AirPlay is stuck on extended desktop and I can only hear sound. Video doesn't show.

How do you roll back with Time Machine to restore my iMac to 10.9.1. I'm new to Mac - my version is OSX Version 10.9.2?

Startup your iMac and press Command R to get it in recovery mode.

Select restore from Time Machine and select the appropriate time before you updated to 10.9.2.

It seems the problem was linked to having AirParrot installed on my iMac.  I downloaded the uninstaller from their site and removed all files for AirParrot.  Everything is OK now with10.9.2

Just like upgrading to 10.9.1, upgrading to 10.9.2 had fixed the lag and pixelation problems ONLY TEMPORARILY

After each upgrade using AirPlay mirroring from my late 2013 MBP to my 3rd gen Apple TV worked perfectly. After a few weeks however it became unusable (quarter-inch sized pixels and multi-second lag).

Whatever is happening during the Mac OS X updates, it fixes the problem (temporarily).

Is it some kind of network related cache that only gets flushed when updating the OS?

Come on Apple, give us a fix or a workaround!

Thanks for the suggestion. That ended up being my problem also. I had just downloaded McAfee Antivirus from ATT U-Verse and as soon as I turned off the firewall I could stream my movies on my iMac hard drive to my Apple TV.

I know I late to the game, but I had a similar issue. I just had to restart my apple TV.
