Hey all - I have been pulling my hair out for a while on this.  Like many I went though the broadband tuner hoops, multiple attempts of removing and recreating keys under user accounts and lately i've been watching the console and watching errors as I selected and de-selected back to my mac.

What I tried this afternoon is referenced in this support article:  VPN not working after upgrading to Mavericks

I used those terminal lines to set maxsockbuf to 1000000 and my iMac share magically appeared on my remote macbook.  First time i'd seen it in months - it did appear for a short time after installing and then uninstalling broadband tuner.

I think this VPN issue makes sense - that's one of the things broadband tuner supposedly does.  So far so good, i'm keeping my fingers crossed.

i have not had any luck in fixing the BTMM issue.

I toggled O n the BACK TO MY MAC in System Preference and in the system log i noticed this issue:

    Oct 12 14:31:30 iMacHD.local mDNSResponder[35]: register_service_instance: domain 109722711.members.btmm.icloud.com. already registered for HP Officejet Pro 8000 A809 @ iMacHD._ipps._tcp.

is it possible that the HP printer is the cause of the failure to connect to BTMM?

my other two computers have no problems.

    I doubt it.

Did you recently upgrade to Yosemite? If so read Re: Re: Screen Sharing to Device with iCloud

Hi - I did update to Yosemite on the weekend and the problem has disappeared. BtMM is fully operational now . Thanks

Interestingly, I have found native IPv6 to be a problem in Mavericks & Yosemite. I run a full dual-stack with Comcast connection. BTMM seems to prefer IPv6 if it sees you have a routable IPv6 address, but then it fails if your TC is configured to firewall incoming IPv6.

If I set the Mac Mini at home to only link-local IPv6, then it seems to NAT-PMP to setup BTMM. However, even then I have to reboot the Mac mini every once in a while as it starts failing to show up at work. Logs look like a "racoon" error, something to do with an IPSEC VPN tunnel I am guessing.

Had this problem a couple years ago, got it solved with the Broadband Tuner uninstall. Just upgraded to macOS Sierra and guess what - same problem again. BTMM gives the error "iCloud server not responding." Since I no longer have Broadband Tuner on my Mac, I'm hoping someone can find the conflicting software again this time.

BTMM is so buggy. I find it works one day, not the next, one hour and not the next. Sometimes a roboot helps, but I have no idea why it works or doesnt. It is a shame because I really count on it, need it. I'm in no rush to go to Sierra, in fact only one of my 3 computers is even on El Capitan for reasons that everything works and I'm afraid to mess with it. good luck but I suspect at some point BTMM will work again.
