I am also getting a call from a specialist at WD, tomorrow I guess (since it's midnight soon here in  Sweden).

They are apperently looking in to the issue according to this thread: http://community.wd.com/t5/External-Drives-for-Mac/All-data-gone-on-My-Book-Stud io-II/td-p/602387/highlight/true/page/5

Nice to see that something is happning. It would be nice with an response from Apple as well. It is so frustrating not knowing what is going on. If I hadn't backuped my photos I would be furious right now. The data loss I experience right now really ***** but life goes on (until I remember something irreplacable which is gone). The most frustrating thing is to not know if I should try to recover some data now or how long I should wait before a possible real solution or explaination, at least an answer what happened.

    I'm another ****** off user.

I have just lost 10TB of data. All the contents of a 6TB WD and a 4TB Seagate drives have been wiped out. Both HDs have been renamed "MyBook".

I'm not sure if I should wait for a solution from Apple or WD or if I should start trying to recover the data with Data Rescue or Disk Drill. Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

Not sure if this is related but I'm having issues with a G-tech Thunderbolt drive

once corruption has occured, resolution cant backtrack the corruption.

Hooking affected drives to another OS is still showing corruption and loss of metadata

I have tried Disk Warrior. No success.

Fascinating things happend out there ... I have 3 "MyBook Studio II" with 2TB each, set to Raid 1 and in a DaisyChain on a FW800 Port on my iMac. I also have the "WD Drive Manager 2.2.6" installed. Everything´s fine with my data, but the drives won't go to hibernate anymore since i updated to Mavericks. They run continuously (since Mavericks released) ...

No idea how I can change this, but it's better to have no hibernate-mode than no data :-/

I took a peek inside my ruined 6TB RAID drive and the unaffected 2TB single disk drive, they are all WD GREEN disks. So it looks like that's not an issue.

@Dextera -- be safe and shut down your machine and disconnect those drives until an update from Apple or WD addresses this issue.  My "MyBook Studio II" was fine for 3-4 days before it went GONE.  Better safe than sorry -- don't risk your drives if you don't have to.

From Western Digital just a few mins ago:

External Drives for Mac Experiencing Data Loss with Maverick OS (10/30/13)

There are reports of Western Digital and other external HDD products experiencing data loss when updating to Apple's OS X Mavericks (10.9).  Western Digital is urgently investigating these reports and the possible connection to the WD Drive Manager, WD Raid Manager and WD SmartWare software applications.

Until the issue is understood and the cause identified, WD strongly urges our customers to uninstall these software applications on their systems before updating to OS X Mavericks (10.9), or delay upgrading.  If you have already upgraded to Mavericks, WD recommends that you remove these applications and restart your computer. WD has removed these software applications from our web site solely as a precaution as we investigate this issue.

sgtpepper12, I received the same. Should be getting a call from a technician also.

Oh, sorry...I'm reading the WD community and Apple forum simultaneously, and the reply buttons are at different places.. or something. Was not my intent to edit someone out. ( Didn´t even knew I could, to be honest)

    Pax!

I asked politely in the WD forum for a really good recovery software for my use before they start tinkering with my discs.
We´ll see what they say. Thats´s the least they can offer when my warranty is still valid.
