I am unable to use my Canoscan 8800F under Mavericks. It worked nicely under ML. Any suggestion? Thx.

Canon is showing a supporting driver for 10.9 for the CS8800F. So download and install this driver and see if this will let you scan.

Thank you, but it still doesn't work. I tried with both Image Capture and Graphic Converter as twain. Restarted. The Canon 8800F does not appear when trying to add the scanner from within system preferences.

Just for completion. The scanner does appear under system information, usb devices.

For Image Capture to work you would need an ICA driver and there does not appear to be one available for the CS8800F.

As for TWAIN, check the folder TWAIN Data Sources located in /Library/Image Capture. You should have a CS8800F.ds file present.

I was also going to suggest you install Canon's MP Navigator EX application to see if this will work. But there is no 10.9 version yet and I'm not sure if the 10.8 version will work. It is not signed so you would have to get past Gatekeeper to install it, which you can do by Control-clicking (or right-clicking if enabled) on the Installer and select Open from the pop-up menu.

After upgrading to Mavericks, you must also upgrade two more things to support the Canoscan 8800F:

    - Upgrade the driver to version 13.9.2a.

    - Upgrade the software MP Navigator EX1.0 to version 1.0.7

    You'll find those downloads here:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan _8800f#DriversAndSoftware

When downloading the driver, be sure to specify your operating system as OS X v10.9 Mavericks.

With these two upgrades, my TWAIN software (GraphicConverter, Adobe Acrobat, ...) as well as the MP Navigator software are working.

However the buttons on the scanner have stopped working, and I've just posted a question about that.

Hi gsmetz, have you gotten the 8800F to work with OS X's built-in Image Capture program like it did on 10.8?

Thanks every one. I got the 8800F working under Mavericks with MP Navigator. Another (much desirable) story would be Image Capture

@zedagent: Unfortunately, no. Image Capture can't seem to find the Canoscan scanner. Also, if you go to System Preferences and try to add it, the Canoscan 8800F does not appear in the list of available devices.  In addition, the buttons on the cover of the scanner no longer work.

I've opened a case with Canon tech support about these issues and I presume that they'll address them in a forthcoming software upgrade.  I'm told that the buttons require another piece of software, called "MP Navigator EX1.0 Opener" - but Canon knows that they have not yet made this available for Mavericks.  I suspect that the problem with Image Capture and the System Preferences is a defect in their new driver and that they'll be fixing that soon in a driver update.  Meanwhile, the scanner does work as expected in most software that uses a scanner, e.g. Photoshop, Acrobat, etc.

More info from Canon Tech Support this morning:

    First the good news:
Canon has just posted another software update for Canoscan 8800F / Mavericks on its website.

    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan _8800f#DriversAndSoftware

(be sure to specify the operating system as OS X v10.9 Mavericks

Download and install two software products from there:

    MP Navigator EX1.0  version 1.0.8

MP Navigator EX1.0 Opener to version 1.0.8  (This is new)

Now the bad news: This does not fix the remaining problems, e.g. Image Capture not working.  Apparently there are two kinds of device drivers for this scanner:

    - TWAIN (which seems to be working)

    - ICA (which may be the source of the remaining problems)

So keep your eyes open for an update to that.

Thanks. What is confusing is:Screen Shot 2013-10-29 at 10.31.39.png

What do they mean by saying "You will need to setup MP Navigator OPner with Image Capture..."?

I downloaded all the stuff that is mentioned, but the 8800f just doesn't respond, the iMac doesn't even know it is connected. This is pretty awful from Canon.!!!!!!!!!

@norbertmuc: Canon tech support was very helpful. Here's what I learned from them:  There are two device drivers (that's software in the operating system) involved.  The TWAIN driver, that's the industry-standard architecture for scanners supplied by Canon, is working.  So third-party software, like Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, and anything else that uses the TWAIN driver, is working with the 8800F.  The other driver, called the ICA driver (stands for "Image Capture Architecture") is what's broken.  That's an Apple product. It's what makes the Image Capture app work.

So just sayin' - this one is Apple's fault, not Canon's.  It's Apple's ICA driver in Mavericks (10.9) that's broken.

Meanwhile, give the solution that I posted a try.  With it, you should be able to get your scanner working using the MP Navigator app supplied by Canon.
