Guys - apologizes if the joke sounded that I was mocking on you. This was not my intention.

The point is that I know about routers, connections, protocols, and IT stuff. I´ve been working in Technologies for most than 20 years. I know that many configuration errors can be solved by a workaround and I know that many users on this discussion are asking for another kind of problem, that might have a clear solution. That´s great for you guys trying to help everyobody here!

The problem here is that my iPhone started behave strange after firmware Upgrade to 7.0.3.

Firstly, it worked fine. Then, it started to have problems connecting Wireless routers. Then it did not connect to ANY router (included the ones that it connected perfectly a day ago). Then, the WiFi switch became grayed. Then it was available again, but did not connect to any Router. Then I tried to switch Airplane Mode OFF and connect to a WiFi but did not transmit anything. Then, I did a Restore as a new device and the WiFi worked, for a while. Then, it stopped working. Then it grayed again.

    Now, it is grayed.

So, what is it? If the wifi processor was fried, It shouldn´t had worked again, as it randomly did.

If it's a bad physical connection in or near the chip, then that explains intermittent performance.

First - your problem did not start immediately after upgrading. That pretty much eliminates the update as the cause of your problem. There ARE phones that had this problem immediately after updating. That's a different situation. It's a real problem, and Apple has not acknowledged it (yet). They will eventually.

From your description you have an intermittent hardware problem with the radio chip. I'll bet you have a problem with BlueTooth also, which shares the same chip. There are cases where the WiFi antenna connection has worked loose; it presents as an intermitent problem, related to the position you hold the phone.

The problem has also been caused by a bad solder connection on the chip. People have fixed it by taking it to a qualified repair facility and having the chip connections reflowed.

The chip itself can also become intermittent from a bad internal connection. This will usually appear as a problem that is temperature sensitive.

Going back to earlier iOS version threads, there are 2 unapproved "fixes" that have been reported. The first is to put the phone in a freezer (in a plastic bag to prevent condensation) for 15 minutes. The second is to heat the phone with a hair dryer for a couple of minutes. The heat seems to be a more permanent solution. But the fact that either of these works pretty much proves it is hardware, as I've only seen heat sensitive software twice in my 40 years in the computer industry.

    EDIT:

One more thing - ignore all of this if the phone is still in warranty. Take it to Apple and they will replace it.

Thanks Lawrence, but I bought it 2 years ago, it´s out of warranty. I live in Argentina, but in two months I´ll be in the US, let´s see what Apple have to say when they ger my iPhone.

I bought it in Spain, hope that´s not a problem!

Does Apple has a real solution for this problem,or we have to carry a deadbody (IPHONE 4S) with us always.

Tried several times of resetting everything & updating all in IPHONE,Still in same state  ???.

Unfortunately, shortly after I did the upgrade to 7.0.4 and worked the WiFi fine, the problem got back.

First not detecting any network, now it is grayed again

    :-(

    Hi guys,

I just got my iPhone 5S and updated it to iOS 7.0.4 and i am now experiencing the same problem.

1: Wifi is connected, but there is no traffic.

2: It drops connection all the time.

    2: 3G and 4G works perfectly
3: I have tried WiFi on 3 different accesspoints (2 of them was a Apple Extreme (4. generation) and a Apple Time Capsule (5. generation) and the problem is present on both.

Like most of you have, i have tried forgetting and re-establishing network, doing a reset network settings on phone, resetting my router...and so on. But no success :-(

Did you Set Up as New iPhone or Restore from backup?  I upgraded to 7.0.4 hoping it would "fix" the mess apple's prior update caused.  No such luck, have not had wifi now for about a month.  Phone does not recognize or locate ANY wifi networks.

Is your phone still under warranty?? If your lucky go return it, trade it in for a Samsung Galaxy.  That's what I plan to do in near future.  Sick of having a phone with no wifi and Apple won't, can't find a resonable fix.

First i restored from a 7.0.3 backup i had, then i updated to 7.0.4 via iTunes..

It sees the Wi-Fi networks and connects fine, but there is no traffic and after 2-5 min. It disconnects and goes on 3G/4G instead.

Try Reset All Settings. You will not lose any data, only iOS settings that you have changed from the default.

what do you mean by no traffic?  It's finding a wifi signal ok, connecting to it, but then what?

Lawrence Finch, I have done reset all settings several times to no avail.

It's connected to the accesspoint, but there is no internet access. And after 2-5 min. It's just goes to cellular data.

    I allso have a iPhone5 and a 4S running 7.0.4 and they have no problems regarding Wi-fi.

The reasonable fix is that you replace the defective device with a known-good replacement.  Instead of the full retail price, youcan get a replacement for about 1/3 the retail price, if you are outside of warranty.  If you are in warranty, it's a free replacement.
