MathType in Pages 5?
Hi,
Just after updating to latest Pages 5, i am unable to use MathType (latest 6.7) inside tables.
Outside of tables, MathType works just fine.
What can i do?

Casper, unfortunately this appears to be just one of many really bad moves Apple made with Pages 5.0. As far as I can tell, you can't insert anything except text inside a table or a text box. Thanks for your confirmation that MathType works fine outside of tables; that's been my experience as well, but I only just installed Pages 5.0 yesterday.
One thing you might try, and it should work if your table isn't huge -- make the table in MathType instead of Pages. Use the Variable-size matrix or table template in MathType. For text, be sure to switch MathType's Style to Text, then back to Math for the math expressions.
I am scrambling to find a friend with the previous Pages version along with MathType because of this exact problem. As a math teacher and tutor for all levels, I have hundreds of pages documents that have MathType equations within tables. When I open the documents in Pages 5.0, I get the message that the objects in tables have been removed. I've stopped opening documents until I can get PDF versions made on the previous version.
I so WISH that Apple would have at least made the equations into uneditable objects in the tables. I also work with ACTIVInspire, the software used for the Promethean electronic/interactive white boards. Every time a new version comes out, my MathType equations become uneditable. Yes, it's a pain, but at least I know what was there last year when I used the file. With Pages, I'm working in the dark. I've never seen anything like it.
I guess I'm going back to Microsoft Word, which wasn't nearly as flexible as Pages.
Rather than dealing with Word, you could instead revert back to using Pages 4.3, which is still located in an iWork Folder in your Applications Folder. Most of us here are doing that.
Be sure to "Open With... Pages 4.3" froma right clik unless you delete Pages 5, or it'll open your docs in the downgraded version and you might not get everything back.
acbyd if you had PAges 09 before updating to Pages 5.0 you still ahve it on your computer!!! Look in the application folder > iWork. It should be there.
Wow! Thank you soo much! You've made my day!!!
According to the Pages manual Pages requires Mathtype Ver. 6.7 but not prior. Be sure you have this version. You can download it from the website of the developers. As befor the evaluation version (30 days) should work as a light version.

Casper and Mr.MathType,
There appears to be a way to insert images inside tables. Try this:
1. Click on the cell you want to insert to.
2. On MathType, select the expression and save as PICT file (xxx.eps).
3. Back on Pages 5, select CELL on the right contextual menu.
4. Click on FILL and select IMAGE FILL.
5. Click CHOOSE then select the PICT file you have saved from MathType.
6. Select SCALE TO FIT (best appearance, IMO).
Below is an example:
As you have inserted an image, your expression is uneditable in MathType.
I hope this works for you until something better comes up in the future.
Hi emandelapaz, thanks for the steps. It's good to see it works that way. I also discovered (thanks to a customer who suggested it) that if you just click once in a cell, then copy your expression from MathType and paste it into the cell, it works! That's actually less steps than saving it and inserting the image into the cell. Whatever way works best though -- use it! :-)
Thanks, Mr.MathType. I'll give it a try.
