I can't sign into the App Store

I reset my password earlier and have tried logging into the App Store. It just loads for ages and never signs me in. I have been waiting half an hour and still nothing. Anyone got any advice??

I seem to have found another easier workaround to sign in to the Mac App store.

At least it works for me and does not require to create a new user. Here it is :

- SIgn off the Mac App store (if you were signed in with another Apple ID)

- Leave the Mac App store open

- Quit iTunes and iBooks if they are running

- Open Safari, and go to Preferences/Privacy

- Choose to block cookies "Always"

- Click on "details" under "Remove all website data ..."

- Search for apple.com; select the "apple.com" line then click "Remove", then click "Done"

- Quit Safari

- Open Activity Monitor (search for it using Spotlight or find it in the Applications/Utilities folder)

- In Activity Monitor, search for "storeagent". You should find "storeagent" and possibly "ibookstoreagent"

- Select each of them and force quit them (using the X in the toolbar if you are using Mavericks)

- In the Finder, go to the ~/Library/Cookies folder (go to ~/Library using the "Go" menu while pressing Alt then open the Cookies folder)

- Delete everything in the ~/Library/Cookies folder and empty the trash.

- Go to the Mac App Store and sign in. This should work. You can press Esc if asked for your username and password a second time.

- Go to Safari, then Preferences/Privacy

- Choose to block cookies "from third parties and advertisers"

- Go back to the Mac App Store. You should be able to use it "normally".

Some steps might be overkill, but it seems to work for me now.

I have one Apple ID without problem. But each time I sign it using it, then try to use my "problematic" Apple ID, I cannot sign in, unless I do these steps.

Please tell me if this works for you. (I'll send a bugreport to Apple probably tomorrow; knowing if this works not only for me would help).

Thanks in advance,

Jérôme.

I have the same issue with one of my Apple IDs.

I use 2, an Alerican one and a French one.

Everything works fine wirth the newer French one.

But I have had issues with the American one for several weeks.

One is that I get an error message signinf into iTunes that the iTunes store is unavilable. Deleting cookies and certain files is a temporrary fix.

And for the last few days (I was already using Mavericks) I have the same issur as you signing to the Mac App Store with my American Apple ID. (load for ages).

I have spent several hours with iTunes and Applecare teams over the last month and a half. They provided a temporary fix for iTunes but nomore.

The issues are the same on 3 different Macs, as well as Windows 7 inside VMWare (except of course that there is no Mac App Store on Windows)

Anyway, I have a temporary fix for accessing the Mac App Store :

- Create a new user in System Preferences/Users and Groups. A standard user is sufficient.

- Login to your Mac as that new user.

- Sign on to the Mac App Store.

- Buy / update your apps.

- Log out and delete the "new" user in System Preferences/Users and Groups

I could see that if I sign on iTunes with my French Apple ID (as the new Mac user), I then have the same problems when trying to sign on with the American ID.

Hope this helps,

Jérôme.

So I got really frustrated and went into my local Apple store instead. I first went into Apple.com and log into my apple account and then immediately open up apple store and log in...guess what? IT WORKED...must have been the Apple's employees "magical presents". But anyways, he didn't know why we had the problem with my account earlier not being able to sign in. However, we came to a conclusion that I might have installed Mavericks with another Apple ID instead of mine...and that messed up the whole thing. So I had them reset my computer to factory setting (I backed up everything and since it was a new 2013 MacBook Air I just bought three weeks ago, I didn't have anything on there except for like 500 mb of documents and a few photos). Now everything is fine and I'm staying with the previous OS X for now until they have another new update for Mavericks, then I'll decide whether or not I'll switch to Mavericks. If you can backup your documents and willing to go into your apple store to reset it to factory setting, then do that. Start fresh like me. Good luck guys

Not that this probably helps much, but I haven't installed Mavericks and last night started down the rabbit hole with my iTunes/apple ID password not working. I was continuing to download an item from the iTunes store that I'd started downloading the day before, using my same-ol', same-ol' ID/password. I got a pop-up to log in again. So, I did. The pop-up told me my password was wrong. This was confusing, since it's the same password I've been using for a while. So, I tried it repeatedly (thinking I'd just keyed it in incorrectly) but it wouldn't work. So, I clicked on "I Forgot" in the pop-up to go reset my password. Did that & went back to iTunes to finish downloading my item. ITunes continues to not recognize my password. As others have noted, though, I'm still loged-in on the discussions site with the same old password/log-in ID combo (?). As it stands, I can't complete my download till Apple fixes this. I imagine I can't make any new purchases, either, till they fix the problem.

I'm having the same problem, my iTunes account & App Store are the same but when logging into the App Store it says "Connection Failed", I just downloaded Mavricks last night. I spent 2 1/2 hours standing in the Apple Store last night till a 1/2 hour after close because Mavericks crashed my Hard Drive. They had to recover my data & then reboot the hard drive to default & then reinstall Mountain Lion OS & then reinstall Mavericks on the computer again. Now I'm having the problem with the App Store & I'm also having a problem that after I Shut Down my Computer it doesn't load all my settings but if I Restart it...it loads all my settings.

I went to the Apple store & they helped fix the problem.I had to create a New user on my computer & make it an admin, the I had to revoke my old account of admin duties & delete that user & save it's files. I then had to give myself the privileges to alter those files. it was a pain in the butt, but now my computer is working & I was able to login fine but I did have to change my password.

Hello Jerome,

Your trick worked 100% for me, exactly as described.

I tried almost everything I found before - nothing helped but your advise.

Thank you very much!

- Leave the Mac App store open

- Quit iTunes and iBooks if they are running

- Open Safari, and go to Preferences/Privacy

I was having the same problem running OS X Mavericks. The workaround I used was this:

This sounds like I'm creating a new account, you're not, but bear with me, as it was the only thing that worked (I'd reset router, checked DNS, reinstalled mavericks etc)

Go to quick links,

Select login

Select create new Apple ID

When presented with the welcome to the App Store page, select continue

Check the box "I have read and agree..."

Then

using two fingers, swipe back to the the main App Store page

Select login

But this time log in

Hopefully this will work for you

I can't sign into the App Store
