After ios 7.0.3 update iphone 4 not recognizing wifi network

Im using a 4S, and had the ios7 installed for a couple of weeks, then one day I wake up to see the dreaded Greyed Out WiFI.

• The reset network did not work,
• the firmware upgrade to my modem did not work.
• I resorted to just reformtting and deleting everything on my phone and then let it update to 7.0 then I went the extra step to upgrade to 7.3.

Temporarly the wifi connected. I go into settings which by the way APPLE, took forever for the settings options to show up and this is happening over more than once. Then for some reason the wifii just stopped connecting. I did a reset network, and then got the dreaded greyed out bar. So I did the same step and reset network and it went back to giving me the option of turning on the wifii to green but guess what cannot find my network!! SERIOUSLY?? APPLE you are going to loose customers and or face lawsuits if you dont fix such simple bugs. Or is this a new strategy to sabotage old phones such as the 4S so we have to go out and buy a new one? Seriously wake up.

Had the same problem. After the 7.0.3 upgrade while tethered to the latest itunes on mavericks, I re-entered wifi and icould credentials... but shortly thereafter settings were unresponsive (UI behavior was choppy) and the wifi settings were blank and enable/disable was unresponsive.

After many reboots...I finally did the following...

General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

(pass the confirmation prompt and restart)

tried wifi - no luck

General > Reset > Reset All Settings

(pass the confirmation prompt and restart)

tried wifi - no luck

General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

and it finally worked. But of course by this point all the customization under settings have to be re-entered.

I'm just guessing the update somehow corrupts the existing settings on the device.

I'm having the exact same issue with my iPhone 4S. Upgrading to iOS 7 was a huge mistake for me as my phone no longer wants to connect to my Netgear WNDR3700. The strange part is that 7.0.2 seemed to auto connect about 50-60% of the time and when it didn't, I could at least join the network manually (after 3-5 failed attempts.) Unfortunately, since updating to 7.0.3, not only will my phone not automatically join my wifi network, I can't even manually connect (by repeatedly attempting to join manually.) I also have noticed that my phone no longer picks up some of my neighbours' wifi signals that I used to be able to see under iOS 6. Weird.

This is extremely frustrating as I now have to be careful when making purchases or updating apps (only have a 500mb data plan.) The really annoying part is that the rest of our devices work fine:

Summary:

iPhone 4 (wife's old phone) - fine (iOS 6.x)

iPhone 4S (mine) - doesn't connect 90% of the time; worked flawlessly with iOS 6.x

iPhone 5S (wife's new phone) - connection issues under 7.0.1, fine under 7.0.2 (haven't updated to 7.0.3 yet)

iPad 3 (mine) - fine under 7.0.2

iPad 4 (wife's) - fine under 7.0.2

Router: Netgear WNDR3700 - using IP reservation based on MAC (tried it without)

Security: WPA2-PSK (AES)

Channel: 2.4 GHz = 9 / 5.0 GHz = 48

I've tried:

- Resetting my phone's network settings

- Resetting the phone

- Resetting the router (which seems to help on the first connection attempt, but not always so it could be a coincidence.)

- Disabling DHCP IP address reservation

iOS 6 worked flawlessly, 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 caused wifi connection issues, 7.0.2 was better, and 7.0.3 rarely connects.

Same issue here.. weak or no wifi signal/ as well as bluetooth! Using Airport Base Stations.. no problems on other devices

Ditto. Called Apple support (who were very nice by the way). Did the following: 1) Reset network settings. 2) Reset all settings both to no avail. Then did a back up on iTunes, followed by a restore from iTunes. This did not resolve issue either. No wifi available. Apple said they would happily try to fix my phone if I send it in with a $199 hold on my credit card. That's the same price as a new 5s upgrade on my wireless carrier, so no thanks. Also, for some reason the restore from itunes (from my backup) wiped all aps off of my device but kept the camera roll and contacts. I guess with no wifi, my aps are meaningless anyway. Frustrated apple user! Both wife's iPhone 4S running 7.0.3 and iPad working just fine. Hello Samsung, good bye Apple. The Apple software update corrupted my phone so they should fix or replace for free IMO.

I just purchased my first iPhone a few days ago after using nothing but Android devices for the past several years. It's a used phone, but appears to have been well taken care of and according to the information provided to me when calling into Apple Support, was purchased by the original owner just over a year ago.

This, too, is an iPhone 4 which came with iOS 6 pre-installed. Upon receiving the phone I naturally wanted to update to the latest version, so I connected to my home network with no problems and updated the phone to iOS 7.0.3 over Wi-Fi. Lo and behold, as soon as the installation completed and the phone rebooted, it not only couldn't find my hidden network anymore, but any network at all, for that matter. I've tried everything imaginable short of opening the thing up and fiddling with the internals, all to no avail.

I know for a fact that there are several networks around the neighborhood that aren't hidden, and even some that aren't protected, but no matter where I go, nothing ever shows up on the available networks list. I've been to my college, my office at work, restaurants... and nothing ever shows.

Upon calling Apple Support and following their instructions to Restore the firmware over iTunes, unfortunately the problem persists. Before hanging up I asked the customer service representative what the next step would be just in case it didn't work, and naturally he told me I would have to "replace the phone" because if a Restore didn't work it was "clearly a hardware issue". Well, I'm not buying it. I'm not buying another iPhone, either, until this gets resolved.

I remain hopeful that another update will be released that eventually brings the Wi-Fi functionality back, and am trying my best to not form a negative opinion of Apple based on this one experience. The one redeeming factor at this point is that Wi-Fi isn't a necessity for the majority of what I use the phone for, but I'd still like to be able to use it in the event that I ever do need it.

Please fix this, Apple.

Any luck? I've restored my phone from iTunes 3x now, still NO wifi. How does a software update mess up hardware? I'm waiting for a new update to hopefully correct this issue.

Is the wi-fi greyed out? If so, then it may be a hardware defect, and you should be able to get a free replacement under your hardware warranty.

If it's not greyed out and just won't connect to your home wi-fi router, then it may be that you need to update your wi-fi router's firmware.

Get it replaced for free under your hardware warranty. Why is this an issue for you. The replacement is free under warranty. That's how you fix it.

Also, most retailers have a return policy of up to 14 days for iPhones. Exchange it for a new one through the retailer.

Perhaps it wasn't purchased from a retailer and I read it that he phone is over 12 months old, don't think a warranty would cover is unless the OP had bought AppleCare or the previous owner transferred it over (if possible).

Looks like another one of the coincidences?

Unfortunately not. The phone is already out of warranty so I'm considering opening it up and attempting to tighten the screw that goes over the Wi-Fi antenna, but it was working fine before the update so I'd rather just wait it out for 7.0.4 and hope for the best. If that still doesn't fix it, then I'll pop the thing open.

The Wi-Fi button turns on and off just fine, the issue is that no networks appear. The issue is not just contained to my home network, the phone doesn't list Wi-Fi networks from anywhere. I can go up to any network anywhere in the world and it will literally never show anything under the CHOOSE A NETWORK... area in the Wi-Fi settings.

Correct. I purchased the phone from an individual, not a retailer, so unfortunately there's no return/exchange policy for me to fall back on. And yes, the phone is over 12 months old, so the original warranty has expired. The only way I could get the phone replaced is to pay the $149.99 fee, which I'm not going to do.

no wifi is not greyed out, it toggles on and off. it's not the home router. wife's iphone and ipad have no problems connecting. my phone does not find ANY wifi networks. I've had my phone for over a year and it has worked just fine until the upgrade. wife has same exact phone, also upgraded, no issues on her phone.

After a lot of intermittent flaky behavior (choppy settings, no networks found, settings disabled, etc.) eventually the antenna failed completely and the settings greyed out. Fortunately replaced under warranty. The Apple Genius claimed not to be aware of issues with the 4S and also suggested updating to 7.0.3 but I can certainly say that the problems happened after 7.0.3. (on a 4S that was only a week old and replaced because of other issues.) Two replacements in a month.... something in 7.0.3 makes the wifi antenna run hot and fail until it fries out.... so will remain on 7.0.2.

Hi there. I've updated IOS 7.0.3 in my Iphone 4S (16G) and I lose 3G network.

I've tried Resetting my phone's network settings a lot of times, but unfortunately, the problem still the same.

3G network is not working. However, I can connect Wi-Fi connection from our company..

Do I need to change my carrier?

Hey guys, I was having the same issue but i have found a FIX. After a lot of resetting, restoring, searching forums etc I was ready to try anything. I read somewhere that the issue could be related to heat management in iOS 7. Here's where the crazy part comes in. I put the phone in my freezer. After 1 hour the bluetooth began working. After another 2 hours the wifi turned on. I have absolutley no idea why this worked because clearly this is a software issue with 7.0.3. I know this goes against every troubleshooting technique. But at least for now it's working. Would love to know if this fix works for anyone else. GOOD LUCK
