Newsstand is still not available for Mac users?
Am I missing something, is Newsstand still not available for Mac users? It's not part of OS X? I still need to carry two devices to read magazines?

Yep. I'm assuming it's on the way but who knows whether that means in a few months or waiting for 10.10 in a year.
That's why I get whatever I can through Zinio, instead. The Mac version is pretty bad (their tech support says that it's because they're still tied to some old version of Adobe Air) but it works and also has versions for PC, iOS, Android, and web browser!
That's also why, even though iBooks is finally on the Mac, I'll stick with Amazon/Kindle. Also works on Mac, PC, web, iOS, and Android. Still ***** that it's all DRMed. I wish the book/magazine publishers would realize what the music publishers did a couple of years ago and drop DRM. Just put out everything as PDF - which is sort-of non-proprietary.
Also, with Apple, at least as far as I understand for now, all your books and magazines are tied to your iTunes account so I don't think you can share it with family members if you're using separate iTunes/Apple IDs. My wife and I share an Amazon account so that at least we only have to buy Kindle books once! I wish Kindle exanded their tiny magazine selection so we didn't need a separate Zinio account.
How were computers supposed to help do things for us and be time-saving devices again???
I have been using Zinio for the most part, but had a few magazines through Newsstand, and I buy all my books from Amazon now so I'm not tied to just Apple's devices. It's a shame. Thank for confirming the unfortunate truth.
Not sure whether to expect a knock on the door late at night from men wearing suits & shades & Apple logo cufflinks for posting this but I've successfully been turning one title bought through Newsstand into pdfs that I can then read on my desktop or laptop. Using iExplorer you can find the pages of the magazine, unfortunately stored as separate pdf files but by selecting the relevant pages and opening them in Preview it's easy to smosh them together into one pdf file which is nice and convenient.
If anyone from Apple is reading this, I don't really want to resort to this, I'm happy to buy the mag, I just want to be able to read it on a nice big screen. I'm amazed it's not possible to easily buy a magazine and read it on an OSX mac. (I have tried Zinio but no 'reader' app for an OSX mac. I can read any purchases via my browser, but the online experience doesn't make me feel that I 'own' the magazine I've bought.)
No one should blame you. We have to be able to read our magazine issues on big screen if we like to and not by downloading zillion of side apps to do that. Apple please, just make newsstand available for osx.
I just got my itunes recipt from my newsstand subsriptions. Which is awsome since my iPad died. There is no good reason Apple has not done this. Of course there have been very few things that have impressed me since Cook took over.
Apple does so many things right... but they forgot about NewsStand.
I love the ability to to have almost everything synching between my devices. I recently found a publication called iCreate which I decided to subscribe to. I was hoping to practice some of the great tutorials in the magazine on my MacBook. I was hoping to only use my macbook & not have to read the publication seperately on my iPhone or iPad.
Having to read the magazine on a separate deice is not a deal breaker, but having dual screens & only having to navigate on one device would certainly simplify the process.
Apple - please come up with a NewsStand app for the other Mac products out there. Or, for me, even better - an iCloud version - then I could also read my publications on my work PC which is MS Win7.
Agree. This seems like a huge miss. Apple...come on. Please?
I have a number of digital subscriptions to magazines through Newsstand and not having access to them on my Mac Pro is really annoying. My iPad runs out of space pretty quickly so I've started using Zinio instead. I will be canceling all my Newsstand subscriptions and resubscribing through Zinio which does have a Mac reader application now, and it works fine. It's so much easier to keep a large magazine collection this way. Apple REALLY needs to get Newsstand on the Mac as a desktop application as well, much like iBooks. Annoyingly you can't even leave feedback for Newsstand as it's not listed in the feedback section!
