Calendar alarms are no longer supported?

Hi, I thought all was lost too, but everything still seems to be there, you just have to dig a little deeper into the Calendar menu.

You can still trigger an automator workflow by saving the automator as an application, or file, then in alarms in Calendar click on"Alert" and another menu will appear that allows you to "open file".

You received the error because some security issue with the App Sandbox, basically the OS doesn't think your app is safe because it's not signed. You can confirm this by opening the console. Look for a message saying something like:

lsboxd:

Not allowing process nnn to launch "/Users/.../Library/Workflows/Applications/Calendar/....app" because the security assessment verdict was denied.

If you get the issue, the easiest way to fix it is to run it manually once. Once you do that the OS will start trusting it.

This did not work for me. When I go to Open File, only Calendar.app is available. I go to choose Other and nothing happens after I click on it. Any suggestions?

That happened to me several times (I have lots of alerts). What worked for me was to completely exit Calendar and reopen it, and then for a couple of alerts the "Other..." option would open the file locate window. Hopefully that works for you too.

I tried that with a complete Restart and I got further than I got last time I tried. The option to open a file was given. I chose one. But when the time came, the alert only opened Calendar, not the application or the file that I chose (Excel, .xls). I'll keep plugging away.

All the files I opened for the alerts were Automator files, which get saved as .app. Maybe you need to open Excel.app and give the spreadsheet name as a parameter?

I planned to specify Excel.app as a test but when I went to choose an Application, none of the Applications in my folder were available to choose. Very Strange. Most of my Automator files were set up as Calendar Events. I created a test one and tried it this morning, but an alert came up when the time came to execute this from the Calendar. It said that the file could not be opened. HOwever, when I double clicked on the automator file, it executed just as expected.

Do you mean that I should build an Automator app such that Excel is opened and then the file?

This might be the security restriction I mentioned earlier. Now that you ran your automator file, try it again as an alarm, it might work this time.

I think the problem comes from where the alert are. Because with Mavericks they are by principle in iCloud. So if you don't put your workflow or application in iCloud nothing happens.

I had the same problem with an application of automatic backups of files in iCal that ceased to work with Mavericks because my calendar app was in iCloud and my backup workflow was not.

I try to save all in iCloud and will tell you if it works

Finally I try both solutions (Alert in iCloud and on My Mac) and both are ok. So it was just a matter of deleting my old bakckup workflows and alert in Calendar and dot it again.

I forgott yo say that I did a workflow to save files in my Mac and in DropBox together and it was ok.

We're too much accustomed maybe to the fact thal all new update are doing everything for us. But we have to do a little work too to adapt our machines and own routine to it.

I was only able to make mine work, by recreating and then saving all of my current automator files as Calendar Events again. In order to open files that are not Automator files from the Calendar, I had to create an automator file to open the Excel files.

I had to save them to ON MY MAC, instead of iCloud

OR

save them as an Automator Calendar in iCloud.

Thanks a lot, this solved my problem. However I did have to run it once manually to avoid getting the "There was a problem with an alert" error.

What worked for me was discovering that in System Preferences - Security - Privacy, under the Accesibility choices, you have to check off the box for every Automator script that you've created. Once I did that, I stopped getting the error prompt the there was something wrong with my Automator script.
