Canoscan Lide 25 and OS X Mavericks

One of the first major unwanted changes I've noticed in OS X Mavericks is that it has no driver for Canoscan Lide 25 and neither has Canon. Therefore, this scanner is not detected by Image Capture.

Reinstalling the driver provided by Canon (and not updated since the release of OS X 10.6) does not help.

There is a chance that the scanner is not supported by either company any longer, since it dates back to 2002.

Nevertheless, I am glad to inform all Lide 25 users that there is a workaround:

1. Reinstall the driver for OS X 10.6, available here: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan _lide25#DriversAndSoftware

2. Install the Canoscan Toobox application, available from the same page above. It is absolutely compatible with OS X Mavericks AND will detect the driver as soon as it is launched.

It would be nice if Apple could release its own driver, but for the time being I am glad I solved a problem and I want to share this with you.

Thanks for the guide.

Confirmed that this still works on OSX Yosemite 10.10

After installing both the driver and the tool, once you start up the scanner tool, the scanner kicked to life.

Strange that the installation CD came up with a Power PC application not supported installation error. But this work around has worked fine.

Looks like I won't have to go buy a scanner after all.
