Correct. An iPad comes with a 1-year international warranty you can use in the United Kingdom without any problem

I'm going to have to contradict mende on this one. If you purchase a WiFi-only iPad, the warranty may be valid in the UK. I've seen reports on both sides of the issue, with some people in some countries having their warranty request declined, though most haven't had problesm. If you purchase a WiFi+Cellular iPad in the US, however, the warranty will be valid only in the US, just as is the case with iPhones. It will not be honored in the UK.

I would strongly suggest, therefore, that you buy your iPad in your home country.

Regards.

Sorry, mende, but you're at least partially wrong. The warranty terms for the iPad are the same as for the iPhone:

IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE AND iPAD SERVICE. Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone and iPad to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.

I'm going to have to contradict you, the restriction does not apply to the WiFi only iPad, it does apply to all models of the iPad with cellular capabilities.

While there may have been problems somewhere with getting service Apple's official policy is the WiFi model is international. And I called and asked to be sure. It is no different than the warranty for the MacBook Pro.

Apple needs to rewrite that section and clarify it but there are a lot of things on their various sites that need to be clarified. I did pass the information along.

I do know that the warranty for a US purchased iPad was honored with no question in Brazil.

That may be the official policy, but again, I advise caution from anyone considering purchasing even a WiFi-only model, since as I said people have reported problems, particularly with authorized service providers, getting support for an out-of-country WiFi-only iPad.

Apple's 1L techs have been known to give completely wrong information on Apple's policies, so while I don't doubt what you were told, that's not a guarantee when Apple has not put it in writing.

So I still strongly suggest that people buy any iPad or iPhone only in their own country. That way there is no chance of the warranty being denied. There's not often a good reason for someone buying in another country; it usually boils down to impatience.

I agree with your statement about buying in your own country if possible completely.

But there are times when people bought in their own country and then moved for whatever reason.

I've also read, here and other places, about people who bought iMacs, MacBook Pros, etc. here and had issues with the warranty in other places. But this is an Apple problem and I would not caution people not to buy the product.

Apple has not put it in writing that they will not work on a WiFi only iPad.

They haven't put in writing that they will, either.

The warranty statement on Macs has no clause about potential restrictions, where the warranty on the iPhone and iPad does. There may not be problems with a WiFi-only iPad, but refusal of coverage remains a possibility, so any purchaser needs to be aware of the possibility that warranty on any iPad or iPhone may be restricted to the country of sale.

'nuff said. Regards.
