Q: Mavericks does not recognize ExpressCard

Mavericks does not recognize the SIIG ExpressCard 34 Firewire card that works perfectly with 10.8.5.  Have contacted SIIG support.  So far no response.

You would need to check your own cards to be 100% sure but the Apple support document for 10.9.2 update http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6114 explicitly mentions this issue.

... I don't think my card manufacturer is on to it yet!

It worked for me on my 2010 17" MBP (6,1 model).

I previously installed the Caldigit USB 3 drivers under 10.9.1 and then used the multibeast software to copy the missing / broken kexts form 10.8.5. Then I installed 10.9.2. and all my Express cards (two USB3 and an E-Sata) card are recognized.

I'm now test copying 400 gigabytes of video data from one USB 3 drive to another USB 3 drive using the Caldigit USB3 PC Express card, both plugged into the Caldgigts dual ports. So far it's running fine. I actually would say the data transfer is a little faster and more consistent than under 10.6.8 by about + 10 MB/sec.

    HTH..

After updating to 10.9.2 and updating my UAD software I appear to be back in business. Thanks to everyone one else that raised a stick over this and got this problem solved!

The new Maverick update form Apple 10.9.2 has fixed my problem on 17" 2010 MBP.

What I had to do to fix it.

    Install the 10.9.2 update.

Used kext drop app took to install the Kext files that worked for my express card in Mountain Lion (if you have the original installer for the express card then use that).

Inserted my express card and it worked !

    Hope it works for you.

I have the generic high spped usb3 express card that now transfers the data at over 100 Megs per second !!!!!! on my usb3 external drive. Just copied the Maveric 5GB install file in under a minute. So pleased Apple have fixed this express card issue.

    What I used

    kext drop app

    CalDigitFastIO.kext

    CalDigitUSBxHCI.kext

that worked with my AKE express usb3 BC628 card. Make sure you get the slim version that fits in the mac express slot not the one that fits in a pc slot. I have the AKE as I purchased few years ago, can't see theat company and paid about £10 (thought it was worth a punt as I have windows 7  and mac on the MBP). I had to flash the bios on that card using my PC partition when I first got it.

They have similar one on Amazon uk, which peopel say works.

GMYLE(TM) ExpressCard 34/54 to USB3.0 Express Card Adapter Dual Ports Windows 7/XP/Vista

    Best of luck.

I use my ExpressCard all the time, why would Apple do this? Honestly, everyday im starting to lose faith in this company!

Where is the update Apple, there are people that need to get to work!

Apple needs to fix this issues. Working freelance and need the ExpessCard34 to dump my CompactFlash data. Why not make a driver or firmware update that can be installed for those that have older laptops. I have a 17in Macbook Pro late 2008 with Mavricks 10.9.2.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

It seems on my MBP6,1 from mid-2010 still refuses to recognize my eSata expresscard 34 even with 10.9.2 update. I've tried with both Tempo SATA edge ExpressCard|34 &

OWC Slim eSATA ExpressCard/34 Adapter. Actually, the expresscard icon does show up from time to time but intermittently. I'm not sure if it's powering down automatically if the card is left in or what but the computer fails to recognize it on consistent basis. Anyone else having issues like this still?

I found another solution for my 2009 MBP with Express 34 card slot that was not being recognized. Went to the Sonnet website and downloaded their software for their Express 34 card reader/writer. Can download right from this website. Download and install took less than 5 minutes. Works perfectly. Hope it works for you. Name of file and link to page are below.

Qio System Installer and Uninstaller (OS X) 1.3.2c
