Mavericks Install DVD

Everything is OK. Pressed Option, it displayed the startup screen with my start-up disk (Macintosh HD), Recovery Partition for 10.9 and my DVD-ROM (OS X Base System). Chose the first one and presto!

So, the second time I risked to boot from the third and during ~15 most nervous minutes in my life when I feared of loss of all my data it went through all the steps up to Install Screen with all these options. It's functional as expected. Feel relieved. Thank you both endlessly, your help was beyond price as was this thread that proved to be of great use even after a year since was started!!! Hope it will help someone else.

True, but with Apple computers shipping without a Superdrive, it appears in Apple's opinion that DVDs are the new floppy disks.

But apple still sell macs with superdrives.

Clearly apple know there is still a demand for it. Why else would they still sell it?

The point is they are still selling it.

Whilst there is a demand (which there clearly is), apple will be sure to provide a supply.

I didn't happen to have dual layer DVD's so I installed it on a Blu-Ray disk in my Blu-Ray drive. Works perfectly.

Burn the dvd with disk utility, not toast as per my original instructions.

I just hope you haven't corrupted the iso file with all the other stuff you've done to it.

Ok thanks guys - I will start with a new box of 10.6.3 and take it from there and or put in a new hard drive if necesary.

Ok will do - have just ordered new 10.6.3

Then you have Mail that won't open (as it has been opened in a later version of mail) among other things.

Did you try this method or read about it?
